New veterans memorial approved

A new memorial for war veterans and those who serve in the military was approved unanimously by the City Council on Tuesday, adding significantly to a little-known memorial at Eagle Park.

Public art and public recognition of history is always a good idea. Especially relating to those who protect and serve our country.

The City Council meeting was less controversial than the Parks Commission meeting where it was a 3-2 vote.

I'd like to donate too. But first I'd like to know why it will cost $70,000 for a new pedestal, plaques and benches. I don't want my donation to go in the pockets of the bloated city bureaucracy and greedy contractors--I saw enough of that going in on Iraq with American taxpayer dollars.

Just noticed something on the arches, that might be why the price is high, round plagues that I think mention Army, Navy, Air Force, well you get the idea. Just wanted to point that out.
