Google ferry

Can someone explain to me what does the Google ferry run from SF to Redwood City instead of all the way to Mountain View? How do the employees get from Redwood City to Mountain View (and back)?

The waters of the bay south of Redwood City are no longer navigable for large boats or ships. It has silted in and is not deep enough. That's why there are no docks south of Redwood City, though once there were.

Aren't their docks at Moffett Field, which that Navy used for transporting weapons?

Nope.
Try Google Earth.
The USN left 1 July 1994.
Doubt if any of the sloughs around there would float an innertube at low tide.

If you read my story (linked below), you'll see I mention that buses meet the employees at the Port of Redwood City. The Google rep I talked with wouldn't say much, but I would presume those are Google buses that then go the rest of the way.
