Nothing good happens after 4:01 am, especially when it comes to racing on the freeway.

They were not racing. Julian was speeding, Nissan break checked him.

There are 4 lanes on 280. I would imagine that at 4am, the road is wide open.
Why would the person speeding get brake checked by another car?
Something must have happened prior to the crash to provoke the brake check. Assuming that's what caused the accident.

I'm afraid illegal brake-checking is hard to prove, whereas speeding is easy to prove. I-280 in the middle of the night has a ton of reasons (true or not) for abrupt braking (like deer running across the freeway).
