Review: 'Inside Llewyn Davis'

Original post made on Dec 22, 2013

Do you really think it's wise to place a huge spoiler in the beginning of your review?
I'm referring to "Blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments include Davis sauntering across the film frame as a straggly singer, guitar in hand and harmonica around his neck, giving voice to an unconventional sound in the background. The brush with Bob Dylan greatness is a grace note."
I saw the film last night and I feel that you've obviously overstepped yourself as a film reviewer, even a film critic. People read your column to find out "about" a film that they might want to see, not have you tell them major plot points in the film, and in this case, one of the most major plot points of the whole film that happens before and sets up a very pivotal cinematic sequence that makes one look back at the entire film in a different light. Enlighten people about films, their nature, their quality, their worth, in your opinion and whether or not you think they are worth seeing but don't take away the magic that filmmakers work so hard to put on the screen for their audiences to see and to figure out for themselves, not a film reviewer from a small town paper to spoon feed it to them. It's not your job to take away those moments but to encourage your readers to experience them with subtle references and character sketches, not outright third act twist reveals.
