Gas lines cut on Second Harvest trucks

Gas stolen from two Second Harvest Food Bank trucks earlier this week will cost the nonprofit the equivalent of 34,000 meals for hungry residents of Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, according to a spokeswoman.

If they wanted to steal gas then why not just siphon it instead of damaging the trucks.
And the obvious question is why steal from such a wonderful organization to start with.

Probably could not easily syphon the gas because the gas caps were locked. I agree that stealing from a charity like this is really lame. If you are that hard up for gasoline, why not just steal from a gas station?
