You mean people are going to have to walk before they go for a walk? Outrageous!
The mass complaining about anything "Dish" related provides good insight to its users. These will be the people (and lots of them) that you will share the trail with. I honestly don't know why people go there over other destinations. Its an over crowded unpleasant blacktop path void of much wildlife compared to areas very close by. I guess the crowds provide a more secure feeling for those insecure about being out in other area, but I still don't get it. People are funny...follow the crowd, they must be on to something right? #Ranchosanantonio

People complaining about something they don’t even pay for.
Stamford doesn't have to let people use that space at all.
Don't llike the parking? Don't go there.

I go to the Dish once in a while and, compared to other more scenic hikes, I consider it a good, fairly arduous workout. I think of it more as a circuit - a place to exercise outdoors - than a hike. Frankly, I find the current parking rather absurd - on a weekday mid-morning, I might spend upwards of 20 min trying to park, and then hiking easily a half mile or more to enter the Dish area for the intended hike. Hate to think what the crowded times might be like.
I feel for the local residents. I feel for the visitors. I think both the current approach and future plan for parking are intended to cut down on the desirability of the destination for visitors. Certainly worked on me. Perhaps, if that location is not ideal to open up to users/hikers from around the Peninsula, we can try and emulate it on hills somewhere else. A lot of the other (beautiful, amazing) hiking destinations around don't seem to offer the same LOOP + HILLS + 1-HOUR TOPS type synergy.

The dish is a good walk...you can go both the easy way and the hard way.... People are getting out of hand though. Stanford could just as easily say no one goes in. And the fact that so many of the businesses AND public facilities are leased by Stanford for almost nothing.... but I guess some people only care about what affects them.
Granted...maybe furd is getting huge tax write offs for all those cheap land leases...

Maybe Stanford should build a large car park (say for 100 cars) off Junipero Serra at the foot of the dish opposite the end of Stanford Avenue with plenty of room for parking - they could have free and paid hours with passes for Stanford faculty/students, they could also charge for charging electric vehicles - like they do with other Stanford lots. It would also be useful if the guard at the bottom had a bike valet area for safe bike keeping - given that you cannot bike, scoot or roller-blade the Dish.
Even though people walk the Dish - they won't be pleased walking to the Dish - and cars aren't going to go away any time soon.
