A visited my son in Los Angeles and flew back from LAX to San Jose 2 weeks ago. I could have been affected by a similar tragedy. Altho security checks take extra time, I feel they are necessary to prevent incidents like this.

@vkmo, your statement makes no sense. There was "security" two weeks ago. There was "security" today and the shooting happened.
It seems like what the TSA is doing doesn't actually keep anyone safe. Too bad the guy didn't have a tube of toothpaste on him, then for certain he would've been stopped.

LetsUseLogic,
Security checking upto now was before you entered the boarding area. This guy did the killing BEFORE the security check, NOT AFTER the security checking area. He had not been checked by TSA - as that's the next stage before boarding.

For those people who insist on carrying on large tubes of toothpaste in their carry-on bag and wasting everybody's time arguing about it, may want to remember about the "Bojinka plot".
Liquid explosives are just as effective as solid explosives.

This happened before security and I can only imagine the fear of standing in line one moment and then having to run for dear life.
Sad truth is this has become reality for anyplace you go. Even the police have to resort to shoot first, ask questions second and third you don't make a mistake. Look what happened in Santa Rosa.
