Sounds like a medical problem that is specific to this family. I am sorry for their problem, but I don't think it rises to the level of public concern and press coverage

George, this is not a unique case. 1 in 13 people these days have been medically diagnosed to be allergic to various foods. That's roughly 8% of the population, not a small number.

Ask around George. You will find many of us have food, as well as other allergies. It is becoming more and more of a problem for many people. I'm lucky as all I have ever suffered is hives. People do die or have very bad reactions more often than you might think.

I once thought people over reacted to food allergies.
My grandson 2 yrs old was given a pistachio. He only had it on his lips and had a terrible reaction. Couldn't breathe and swelled up immediately.
He was in a NYC hospital pedi ICU 2 days. My daugher always has an epi pen.
My allergist said he sees at least one peanut and nut tree allergy a day. RN, RN

Air Condition, Perfumes, Cleaning sprayers make some children allergic to it. Some at school or day care Nine hours a day living in a CLOSED ROOM breathing all these polluters.

Thanks MV Voice for the article on food allergies. We also carry an epi-pen and are very careful about where we eat and what we eat. And we know many others who are in the same situation. It's helpful to raise awareness since it's becoming so prevalent a problem. Would love to see updates as more research is done and we find out more about the causes and, hopefully, cures.

The bottom line is that it's all about finding things that make living with allergies easier. You don't need to miss out on eating great food just because you have an allergy. You just need to be more aware of what you are putting into your child's body. If you have an up to date substitute guide to hand it's surprisingly easy to work around allergies
