The whole thing is turning out to be a nuisance. Isn't there a limit on the amplified noise? I can hear the thuds of the drums in my home for 3 hours now and it is bloody intrusive. Where do I complain about this?

I couldn't agree more, the noise is hell, even close to Castro St and it seems it is getting louder by the second and I am way beyond just being annoyed.

The noise is ridiculous. It's way beyond a normal shoreline concert. The bass is non-stop pounding. Apparently, they held this event in Oakland last year, which received over 400 noise complaints from neighbors. Mountain View should not allow these rave events as they are beyond a simple nuisance. The noise has been going on since 1pm today, and it's now 10:30 and still going strong. And it starts all over again tomorrow at 1. Unbelievable.

Way over here, south of El Camino and east of 85, we could clearly hear the thumping bass noise until about 11pm. At times it almost seemed you could feel the vibration in the ground. I can't imagine how loud it was for the people living just a mile or two from the Amphitheater. And I hope attendees are wearing earplugs, because that level of sound will cause hearing loss. I've been to a couple similar events in SoCal, which I've enjoyed, but admittedly it's a big nuisance for people living in the nearby areas.
I love having concerts at Shoreline, but honestly this is way over the top of what this community will tolerate.

Any public official who approves this event for next year should be relieved of their job.

No amplification should be allowed st Shorline.

Instead, they should be limited to using low-power limited-range radio/infrared/wifi/etc. technology and have attendees bring or buy receivers to listen to the stuff st the level they want.

If some industry other than "entertainment" that spread its waste over MV like Shoreline does wanted to set up shop here, would they be allowed to do so?

I have lived nearby Shoreline Amphitheater for 15 years. Most concerts you can barely hear it. This concert it was loud in your house, not for a couple hours but all day long. That same beat sound thudding in your ears all day long, loud.

I think these guys are being a little too loud and that is putting it very nicely.

To think this article address concerns about drug use is off the mark, you have to be on drugs to listen to this stuff and people will end up being deaf and dumb from it.

That was an incredibly intrusive event. I could hear it quite clearly, and it was very annoying. Someone should send Shoreline a clear message: Neil Young's all-acoustic Bridge School Benefit is coming up. Let's line up a bunch of heavy-duty subwoofers and play techno all night while they try to get all mellow. They deserve it.

Wow was that the drums I heard in the distance on Saturday night?! I thought it was a St. Francis football game but my spouse said high school football is always on Friday nights.

In addition to the sound (noise?) problem for neighbors near and far, the drug use makes me wonder how many druggies end up at El Camino Hospital's ER room. I wonder how many are uninsured and how that affects the cost of health care for the rest of us?

This seems to be another example of the City of MV govt catering to out-of-town big businesses instead of serving residents.

So the kids had a little fun this past weekend. I know several of the attendees including my own children. This was a safe, well run event. Most of the people there were not on drugs, just enjoying the freedom of dance and enjoying music.

My question is, who pays for all the police overtime.

While the bass was loud and the people were many, this show is nothing short of "Spectacular". The sheer number of patrons coupled with the warm weather and loud music, complaints are justified and expected. I was one of the 30 plus staff members searching hundreds each as they entered in to the venue; FULL SEARCH; Empty EVERYTHING from your pockets. The majority of the kids were energized "sober" young folks and a handful of middle agers just out to have fun and DANCE. I have been a member of the security staff here at Shoreline for a good many years and have seen every type of show/genre there is. There are typically "more" problems at a country show. not to mentions the stabbings at the "War" concert (old school music) a few years back.
This is a huge money maker for the city of Mountain View.

The constant thumping of the bass was so bad that we were forced to leave our home. I implore our Mountain View city council members to please have mercy and do NOT allow them to come back again for the sake of your constituents!

I think thee electronic music shows are fine. Kids being young and dumb and free(yes some take it too far, but that's the same as any big event...some will always take things too far. That said, these shows DO NOT belong in amphitheaters, they belong in INDOOR venues. When the very nature of the music includes loud booming bass that keeps an entire city awake, its only fair to all that they be held indoors.

I actually went for a walk on Sunday morning from the Starbucks on Pear Ave. up to and around to Shoreline Park entrance and back and I was bothered by the mess all up and down the road. Bottles, wrappers, confetti, flyers and even a "pill" were all noted while we were walking. I can't imagine any of the companies in that area - mainly Google being too happy about the mess. I couldn't hear the noise up near Mountain View High but the mess will be seen by way more people outside of Mountain View this morning when they get to work.

I'm not even gonna start up about the drugs...people should be really afraid of what's happening with this generation.

we live over by the Sunnyvale border and the noise was unbelievable on both Sat and Sunday. Shoreline is so run down and dated that it only gets the concerts that the better venues decline. Also with the new Niner and soccer stadiums coming online it will be even less desirable.

It's time to upgrade Shoreline or creatively redevelop the site.

I normally dont mind noisy events but 1 pm to 11 pm for two days that rediculously loud base pounding noise seriously. I cant imagine how the folks in the mobile home park near the concert survived. I live near whisman and i felt the base via the floor not just hearing it. They simply need to turn done the noise. The kids who attended probably have hearing problems now

Perhaps they can hold that concert in a field someplace and not in a smal town such as ours

I can not believe that this would be aloud. The noise level was far to loud and it went on till 11 p.m. I am not happy with who ever voted this one in..

the noise and thumping and booming bass was heard for miles and went on way after 11p. i called the police department and asked who i would complain to, they gave me a number to call which i did. if enough of us send an email to the promoter (info@insomniac.com) and let them know we will not stand for this kind of disruption, then maybe something can be done.

I don't think the drug use at this event was excessive. If you think about it, 40,000 were in attendance over two days and there were 100 arrests. That is .25%. That is one out of every 400 people got arrested, and the City of Mtn. View did not give the statistics for all 100 arrests, so who’s to say how many were drug related?

What do you want to bet if the Grateful Dead played Shoreline, the percentage of attendees packing in the pot would be more like 65%??

I think the event was probably run cleanly and responsibly, my problem is the noise. When a concert is at Shoreline, the stage (and the speakers) faces out towards the bay and the majority of the noise is deflected away from the city and neighborhoods.

This event was not set up like that. It was set up in the venue parking lots. I imagine that the standard of the sound level and measurement is based on the sound coming off the stage, which is understandable but I don’t think that any allowance was given to the fact that the sound from this event was not aimed towards the bay for absorption.

I live in the mobile home park on Shoreline, and although I can here concerts at Shoreline, it’s a soft muffled sound and I can’t hear spoken words or identify any specific songs. I could however, hear clear as a bell, the DJ at this event telling everyone to “Put your hands up in the air, here we go!” as if he was standing next to me. This is unacceptable.

The sound check started late Friday afternoon and went on for HOURS. Saturday and Sunday it was constant noise for nearly 12 hours a day. Not acceptable!

It was louder than any other other festivals that set up multiple stages on the property. The difference is that after 7pm the headliners are on the main stage where the noise level drops considerably.

I’m all for events that are well run and put safety as a priority for the attendees. Traffic wasn’t bad and the attendees were well behaved, but the noise level for this type of even is unacceptable!

Could hear this loud and clear in Whisman Station. Initially we thought that neighbors were having a party: It was that loud. Usually we can hear some noise from events at Shoreline--enough to tell that there's an event--but this was much, much louder. My wife and I could even tell what some of the songs were.

We live on the Menlo Park / Palo Alto border and the bass beat on Saturday night was house-shaking. Inside our home, the Shoreline base beat noise was louder than our TV! It was much better on Sunday.

I am a homeowner, and I have lived in Mtn View for 15 yrs. This is the first time I have ever complained about the noise from Shoreline. For two days, we had to listen to this horrible racket. My 11 yr old constantly complained about how anxious the non-relenting noise made him feel. Our windows rattled all werkend and the floor vibrated 2 days straight. Next city council election, we should all be asking questions about what will be done about this. Someone mentioned how much money the concert brought for Mtn View. I DO NOT CARE ABOUT THAT!!! I care about peace and quiet when I am home for the weekend. I believe the residents of Mtn View have that priceless right.

I HOPE all you people complaining about the noise actually called Shoreline amphitheater like I did. They took my name and number when I called Saturday night around 10:30, We live near Sylvan Park (5 miles from the Amphitheatre) and I could not believe how loud it was. It would seem the City issues permits, who do we complain to? City Council (usually get no response from them), police (they should have bigger fish to fry), code enforcement?.

And who pays for Mtn View police services during these 'events'? Aside from the 4th of July concert, Shoreline Amphitheatre attracts the dregs of the entertainment world.

I an worried, if Mtn View officials allowed such an outrageous event with so little concerns on how the public would be effected, will the cave in on the Moffet field plan.

With the number of complaints and the level of shaking of floors miles away, every member of the city council and the mayor should each issue public statements about how they feel about what happened, how it reflects on mountain view, its residents, quality of life, and what they think, if anything, needs to be done about such things in the future. This would be an appropriate story for the next issue of The Voice.

However, a story of concert goers and the great time they had at the concert, would probably be in bad taste without the complaints given equal say at least. Anything too favorable could be seen by some readers as promoting future similar concerts and some may even think, even if there is no evidence to prove it, that the concert promoters offered incentives for such a positive outlook in the story.

Since when does City Hall care what the residents of Mountain View think about anything...well, anything development related? Seems to that the majority of residents of Mountain View have become nothing more than a class of people that most city council members would prefer remain silent and watch while they - city council - continually violates the goodwill and the spirit of the people.

I could hear clearly 3.5 miles away at Whisman Station. Why is it OK for a concert promoter to annoy thousands of residents but as soon as one person calls in a noise complaint on a neighbor, the cops are all over it?

I agree with BvP! A friend of mine flew in for the weekend a few weeks ago and we went to downtown Mtn. View for a late dinner and a couple drinks (about 9:30pm). Almost every restaurant turns in to a 'cover only' BAR with barely any food service. As a 50 year old looking to enjoy a laid back dinner with my friend, I was really turned off by the fact that the city streets were filled with nothing but 20 somethings. Not that I don't like 20 somethings, I just want to know where the more 'mature' residents are finding joy in this town now.

Despite all the complaints I hear on this forum, I would like to chime in with support for the concert. I've never been to a rave, I could hear the rhythmic beat most of the weekend and I am a homeowner that enjoys peace and quiet.

However, to hear this uplifting beat far off in the distance is so far less disruptive to me than the constant traffic roar from 85 or the random flybys of military aircraft, that I really don't get the rage here.

To me, just knowing that this is *music* and that it represents tens of thousands of people enjoying themselves, it gives me a good feeling to hear this.

So, Shoreline and MVPD: Please count this family down as a supporter of this event and allow them back next year!

I live in downtown MV, near the train station, and I'm not quite sure how so many people had such a different experience than what I heard at my house. In my backyard, I could occasionally hear the bass from the concert, but it was nowhere near the window rattling and floor shaking that some have described.

I know everyone reacts differently to different stimuli, but the level of outrage seems to be a little out of perspective.

If this is the worst thing affecting your life, I think you should consider yourself lucky.

Sure the city should monitor noise at Shoreline, but put down the pitchforks and ropes already and move on...

No pitchfork, just wish the city had prepared for this type of rave, er concert, up front.

For example not allowing the promoter to set up a stage oriented directly towards the city of Mountain View as opposed to orienting the stage towards the bay. It seems to me that after the barrage of noise complaints the first night then concert promoter changed the position of the stage - towards the bay - which seemed to help. Why was the promoter allowed to orient the stage facing towards the residents in the first place? It's not like the concert promoter doesn't know what the music sounds like, THUMP THUMP THUMP of the BASS BASS BASS. Great have fun, but spare the folks who aren't interested in the concert, the side effects of the gig.

A little common sense and thoughtful planning and my guess is there wouldn't be nearly as many residents who were treated to a free concert.

Just as long as concerts of this nature do not get permits going fwd without full review of speaker placement, etc, we'll move on. Sometimes you need a really bad experience like this to prove to the City that it won't be a good idea next time.

The residents will definitely be on the lookout next time PRIOR to the permitting. Its a lesson for the City, but I won't expect we'll have to repeat this past weekend's public disruption and sleep deprivation

What has to happen to deny a permit? Perhaps a couple of murders?
The permit granters need to get their heads out of where the sun don't shine and look out for all the citizens of Mountain View that put them in the position to make serious decisions. Or do they just have $$$$$$$$$$$ signs in their eyes.
I would bet that most of the attendees do not live in our city of Mountain View nor do their parents.

I don't trust this city council anymore. This was the tip of the iceberg. Our city council is not looking out for the residents. Instead, they subject the residents to 20 hours of boom boom music and concert goers running around the city doped up.
