Background note on one of the restaurant winners:

Scott's Seafood actually "opened its Mountain View installation" ten years ago, as "Cantankerous Fish: A Scott's Seafood Venture." Last year, following a change in the investors, and a brief closure to update the interior, it changed name to Scott's Seafood Mountain View. Same restaurant, personnel, menus. (It's still "Cantankerous" to many of its local regulars.)

I'd love to see the runner-ups just because the majority of these places have been winning for years.

I too would love to see a list of the 2nd and even 3rd place Best Of MV. We have so many new and truly great venues and even though I love most of the winners I think there are a few new places that should be mentioned as well. Especially if the vote count was close enough, within so many number of votes.
Thoughts?

Why is Chef Chu eligible if it is technically in Los Altos?

I also like to see the 2nd and 3rd place winners. For example, did Shana Thai come in second in the Thai category? Most people I know like it better than Amarin. I use to go to Ryowa until Shalala opened. Shalala's ramen is hands down better than Ryowa.

Los Charros on Dana is #1, you blew it just check Yelp.

Orchard because that's all there is. We used to have lots of non corp hardware stores. Now I have to go to PA. For shame.

Hobbees is a retro joke. Mt View needs a better breakfast option, again I have to go to PA for that and its a great option. For shame we cant attract a great breakfast non corp restaurant.

Cristi's on El Camino deserves a great reasonable haircut shout out.

What about Hobby? Oh we lost the venerable San Antonio Hobby a long time ago. For shame.

Corporate Trader Joe's is a favorite.

Dentist hate them they are all only interested in pushing implants. No way in hell. Denti Sticks and Sonicare.

Because Mt View has nothing. Chefs Chu is a dynamo.

Insider: Breakfast restaurants.

Just in the downtown, how about:

Olympus: Web Link

Crepevine (VERY popular): Web Link

Both opened in the last year. Both unusual independents.

Los Charros has offered both American and Mexican breakfasts downtown since time immemorial.

Some of the eight downtown-area coffee houses serve some breakfast dishes, such as Bean Scene.

I tried at least FOUR other downtown restaurants that offered full breakfast service, some of them very good, that stopped or closed because very few customers ever showed up despite advertising and online buzz. In downtown Mountain View, the actual problem hasn't been lack of breakfast restaurants, but lack of customers.

Los Altos (downtown and on Fremont Ave.) has a thriving breakfast-restaurant scene, closer than Palo Alto.

Dean's Automotive belongs under Auto Repair/Service (repeat winner in the past), not just Oil Change. Go for their AMSOIL synthetic oil that lasts between 7500-mile services -- no need to worry about oil changes between services then. Knowing that they check all the fluids for acidity, water content, etc., and flush them thoroughly rather than just draining them when the time is right is why I appreciate their approach to preventive maintenance.

Roundtable, Frankie, Johnny and Luigi's - anything is better than Amicis's.

I would also like to see the top 3, and perhaps real numbers.....

Seems to me a lot of the winners run regular ads throughout the year, so I think this is fixed....

Anyone agree?

I submitted my votes this year as usual and was glad to see many of them win their category. I also would like to see the names of runner ups. (Runners up?)

We have no idea if the winners are garnering 100 votes, 500 votes, or whether they're edging someone out 13 to 12, with 75% of their votes coming from their own employees.

This is an annual ad revenue grab.

Question: Did any of the people complaining about businesses not winning the "Best of" actually vote in it? My guess is that the majority of you didn't.

Comment: a 2nd and 3rd place would also be nice to see, a la the way Metro does theirs. Showing this would most likely silence some of the naysayers.
