"Saraff said many very bright Latino students neglect to sign up for AP courses for a number of reasons -- not least of which is that they may feel out of place."
I don't believe this at all. I am from Europe, and I signed up for Mexican Studies right away. Sure, I was pursuing a girl at the time, but I didn't feel uncomfortable in the class at all.

Is this really a district-initiated priority or is it that they are part of a Google grant that includes the district? There was no mention of the Google involvement in the article - why not? Details:

I applaud the goal of the Google-funded effort to have AP classes that reflect the diversity of the student body. As parent of kids in Mountain View public schools it is sad to see the segregation by race that occurs, particularly starting in middle schools.
Can Google get the middle schools to have their advanced language arts and math tracks equal the diversity of the middle schools? That would help a lot in getting more talented Latino kids to view themselves as college-bound and academically advanced.
