However, Town Square is a glitchy. When I tried to access this article from it, all it did was refresh Town Square. When I clicked on the comment link from Town Square, said "article not found".

Nice and clean layout, definitely an improvement! I find the default text too small for comfortable reading, but I see that on many websites and I've got used to using command+ to make it bigger.

Re: M.L. Stedman event at Books Inc in Palo alto. The map next to the announcement sure isn't Palo Alto. Also, "admission" only has one "d".

@Martin - Thanks for the compliments. Type size is a hard thing work with online. So you know, it's bigger than it was before and we hope with the additional white space it's easier to read overall.

@Alice - Thanks for seeing the misspelling. That's embarrassing, but is fix. Also the address for Books Inc. was wrong on the listing, so the map showed it in Ohio(!). That has been updated as well.

I don't like the new format, it does not give me enough of where to open it. I really liked the old style , the places one wanted to go was on the left side.

wish it never had changed. the format is difficult to get around in. thinking of canceling the whole thing since the change. it is more difficult to find what I want.

1. I selected Stierlin Estates, but my neighborhood is the super block bounded by Shoreline, W Middlefield, Moffett and Central Ave which is not listed and is where 2000 or so people live. It seems that anything that contains apartments, mobile homes, some condos, some townhomes are excluded as being neighborhoods or parts of neighborhoods. Can you fix this?
2. Having to enter the verification code from a graphic is not assessable to blind people who want to comment. There are alternate forms of verification that provides a way for the v.i. to verify themselves. Can you use one of these instead?

This is important since referencing old article URLs is critical when citing references in new comments. Plus there's a NEW BUG: wouldn't let me enter two URLs to the Mountain View Voice so the pseudo-URLs below should have the proper prefix added before using them.

Question: will the URLs we've used to reference old articles continue to be valid and able to be used in new, future comments?

For example (note these are truncated URLs because of the NEW BUG):

An article to which I posted a comment yesterday was at this (pseudo)URL:

.../news/show_story.php?id=7242

but today the same article is at this (pseudo)URL:

.../news/2013/08/12/dont-throw-that-away

If the old URLs won't continue to function, then a big misteak (sic) has been made because the loss of the capability to reference prior articles will thwart research and other endeavors.

Another NEW BUG is that you wiped out my comment here which had only the two full URLs when I clicked [SUBMIT] and you issued the "error message" too many URLs. The old limit was four URLs -- will that be restored?

@JohnC - We'll look at adding your neighborhood to the drop down. We are constantly adding and modifying the information.
As for the verification code, that's a good point about screen readers. I know we had considered that at one point, but don't remember what issues we ran into. We'll take a look and see what we can come up with.

@InterestedObserver - The URL checking got messed up for some reason, but should again let you post up to four links in a comment. Thanks for pointing it out!
The old URLs will continue to work. We wanted to make sure old content will continue to be found. The URLs Web Link and Web Link will take you to the same place. There may be some older generic site links that don't work, but we're getting all those to work as well.

Will this be rolled out to the other sites in the family (Palo Alto, Menlo Park?)

New color scheme (or lack thereof) is too hard on my eyes.

Or maybe the problem is low quality fonts? Either way, the new web site seems much harder to read than the old one.

Where are the tabs that use to take you to the sister papers: Palo Alto Weekly and Almanac? It's all so white too. I liked the green backgrounds, so I could see the comment section, the movie reviews, etc.

Put the bloggers and their photos on a single link, ie give the group their own page

You guys must have used the same web designer as the Mercury News.
Going with the asylum white on white. is too straining on the eyes. Change it back.

@Lost - The links to the sister papers appear at the bottom of each page (for now). The main navigation is in a period of flux, so they may move up to the top, but it's yet to be decided.

@Chick-fil-haay - Actually, we didn't. The design was done in house by our design director, Shannon Corey.

I don't see a "flow" to the page. My eyes seem to dart all over the page looking for where to read the news. Its "cleaner" because content seems to be more hidden now behind generic links. Lots of blogs easily found, but between the harsh white back ground, and lack of any logical "eye flow", its a frustrating user experience (for me) I find myself moving over to the Palo Alto page more. If I hear of a local story, I'll probably check the Voice, but more likely now, SJ Mercury.The Auto scrolling pictures, if not changed daily, make the page look stale. Better to loose the scroll if fresh daily content cannot be added.
Definitely some tweeks are needed made for improvement, but this is a start.

If I use the link in Palo Alto Online to access the new site, none of the links to individual articles open, it just loops back to the original list of topics. Using Google to search for an article name works with the associated links. On a Mac, tried it using Safari and Firefox, neither worked.

I like the clean new look!

BTW, your "removed for using multiple names" posts. OK sometimes it's probably just someone spamming comments with the same opinion..but you are aware lots of people share the same wifi....at a cafe, at HOME, etc....

But if it's obviously the same person...or likely the same person...that's how it goes I suppose. "Without laws there is no freedom"

There's no category selection for the forums. For example I can't keep track of school only postings in the forums. everything is lumped together.
