Climate Activists to Protest Outside Google HQ Wednesday, Deliver 50,000 Petition Signatures Telling Google "Don't Fund Evil"

Action Comes in Response to Google's Recent Fundraiser for Leading Climate Denier Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK)

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — In response to Google’s recent fundraising event for climate denier Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK), demonstrators will protest Wednesday morning, July 24th in front of Google headquarters in Mountain View to say "Google: Don’t Fund Evil."

The climate activists hope to raise awareness among Google’s environmentally-minded and science-oriented employees and management of their company’s fundraising for one of the most prominent climate change deniers in the country. Equipped with signs, flyers that educate Google employees, and a friendly attitude, activists will march on public sidewalks outside of Google buildings, speak with Google employees, and deliver a petition from Forecast the Facts and CREDO signed by over 50,000 people calling on Google CEO Larry Page to immediately stop funding climate deniers.

What: Rally, march, and delivery of a 50,000 strong petition calling on Google to stop funding climate denial.

Who: Dozens of climate activists, including members of 350 Silicon Valley and Forecast the Facts, with support from Greenpeace, Citizens’ Climate Lobby, Sierra Club Loma Prieta Chapter, Center for Biological Diversity, Center for Inquiry, and CREDO.

When and where: Wednesday, July 24, 2013 in Mountain View, CA
9:00 AM: March departs from the intersection of Garcia and Marine Way, passing 2025 Garcia Ave and ending at 1950 Charleston Rd.
10:00 AM: Petition delivery at the Googleplex, 1950 Charleston Rd.

Visuals: Dozens of people in front of Google HQ with signs reading "Hey Google: Don’t Fund Evil," "Google It: Inhofe Hates Facts," "Hey Google: Don’t Make Me Use Bing," and "Google: Don't Fund Climate Denial."

"Google’s employees have a unique opportunity to tell their employer that staying true to "Don't Be Evil" should mean not funding people like James Inhofe, who stands against everything Google stands for," said Brad Johnson, campaign manager for Forecast the Facts.

More on Sen. James Inhofe:

Sen. Inhofe is one of the Senate’s most vocal climate-change deniers, and has compared Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth to Hitler’s Mein Kampf. He is also against gay rights and opposes net neutrality. Google has received a flurry of opposition for this decision to support Sen. Inhofe, with the San Francisco Chronicle calling it a "shameful act of corporate hypocrisy."
