Forced entry burglaries on the rise, armed robberies on the rise, assaults on the rise, proposed layoffs with Mountain View PD and Santa Clara County Sheriff's department....

Yet our "esteemed" representatives in Sacramento and our local Police and Sheriffs are actively seeking ways to make it tougher for law abiding citizens to protect themselves. A course of action that is sure to embolden criminals and further risk the lives and property of you and your neighbors.

There is an adage that states "When seconds count, the police are only minutes away." A bit oversimplified, but true none the less. The national average 9-1-1 response time is around 11 minutes. A lot of bad things can happen in that period of time. People need to understand that the police do not exist to prevent crime or protect citizens. They exist to take reports, to gather evidence and to investigate crimes AFTER they occur.

You bear the sole responsibility for protecting your life, that of your family and for protecting your property. The ability for you to do so is actively being curtailed by our elected officials. This has to be stopped.

In the mean-time, WE as a community need to do a better job of looking out for one another. We need to be seen outside of our homes. We need to be more observant of people in our neighborhoods who do not belong. We need to more critically question the legitimacy of door-to-door solicitors and flyer distributors.

I was involved in a car accident that is only 1.41 miles (4 minutes) from the MVPD station, yet it took 14 minutes for the police to show up after being called. Yikes!

Is this what happens when the city goes against Federal laws and pushes a sanctuary city down on us?

So I guess if the City doesn't abide by the Federal laws, no one needs too.

Re MV Accident: Was anyone injured in that accident? Was property damage over $700? Was the accident blocking traffic?

If the answers to those questions are all NO, then there is no need for the police to show up at all. And there is no need for your situation to take precedence over other police calls that you may be unaware of at that time.

Yes, I know it's nice to know the police will show up whenever we call them, but that's no longer their job. (I speak from experience of having to go to a police department HQ--neighboring city--to write down a report of a theft that in the past would have brought the police to my dor.)

Keep in mind that a gun is useless in a forced-entry burglary--the cases described here occurred when the owners were NOT home.

What CAN happen in a forced-entry burglary is that the owners' guns are stolen--that happened to my neighbor.

In Colorado Springs, the SECOND attempted burglary usually ends with a call to the coroners office to pick up the trash and a police report indicating the victim had a long rap sheet and his crimes finally caught up to him..

Just north of C.S., an IMFAMOUS SCOTUS ruling said that police DO NOT HAVE A DUTY TO PROTECT ANYONE, EVEN A PERSON WITH A COURT ORDER DEMANDING PROTECTION FROM A JUDGE! Look up Castle Rock vs Gonzales for the sickening details..

Just remember: the average response time to a 911 call is 11 minutes. The average response time of a bullet is 1200 Feet Per Second....And you usually prefer to be judged by 12 than carried by 6....

Hey editor for the Voice, stop advertising the "police have no suspects " part. As a reader it sounds like its relatively safe to break in to a home and not be seen. And people of Mountain View LOCK UP BEFORE YOU LEAVE.

I've set up a couple of really cute nonlethal booby traps in my apartment.

But i do have strategically placed baseball bats just in case of an intruder. I call them the nut crackers.

Two additional burglaries reported on June 16th...one on Covington and one on Foxborough. That makes TEN residential burglaries reported since June 4th, less than a two week time span.
