Did you come to a complete stop before driving across the sidewalk, or did you just try to roll through into traffic?

The legal way to exit the parking lot is to stop at the stop sign which of course is the way I exit. What makes you think I didn't?

Even if I had wanted to exit without stopping, the new trees make it impossible to see if any traffic is coming if you are stopped at the stop sign, if you are further back, or even if you are waiting across the crosswalk area. The trees do not prevent you seeing pedestrians.

What area are you referring to? The ramp down from the roof also suffers from poor intersection characteristics with that speedway of a road running right along the front of the safeway and connecting to the apartments at a distance and feeding San Antonio off past the Fidelity store. They really didn't get this thing laid out very safely. Their whole concern was to maximize the density without regard to safety. More spacing around intersections is a must. Hanging a few mirrors is not going to cut it. There will be fender benders at a minimum.

I was referring to the exit directly in front of Safeway from the parking lot, not directly from the ramp from the roof parking. I agree that the bottom of the ramp has difficult sight lines too, and also is difficult for pedestrians also. There are problems from the main entrance also, but since there is a light it is easier to just wait for the light to change rather than go right on red.

I have used the exit from the parking lot before when there were no trees, but this is the first time since the trees were planted that I have used it and found it hard to see. I haven't used the exit directly at the bottom from the ramp so can't comment on that.

A good and much needed discussion since I doubt the City Council will ever raise its head on this embarrassment.

I agree with PA Resident and David. It's hard to see anything until you are right up into the street. But before you even get to that point it's hard to see the sidewalk traffic. There is also a low wall that partially obstructs the view of sidewalk traffic. Then again, the sidewalk is so narrow it makes you wonder about all the steam put out by the City Council about wanting to make the "walkability" a key component of the complex. So far, the complex is far less walkable, or safe, then what was there previously.

Ironically, the one place with plenty of space to walk in front of the Safeway, as David points out, is actually the main vehicle thoroughfare and is where I've witnessed vehicles accelerating rather than yielding, as it's a driver's one chance to make some progress in the maze they've created!

Lastly, there is better access to Safeway by entering behind Walmart off of Showers and going through the maze of lots that bring you up to the El Camino side of Safeway.

Overall I would agree that this project is pointing out to be a failure for the community whereby only the developer wins and will continue to win.
