Too bad these gullible johns don't read the Mountain View Voice, otherwise they would know it's a trap!

How about identifying the prostitution web site that these johns used to find these "women"?

Nick V is a registered user.

The police are not releasing the name of the site.

Gee, do you think the woman doesn't exist?

@resident:

If the police reveal the name of the website, they probably damage their chances at nabbing the perpetrators.

It's reasonable to assume that they known the website's URL and are monitoring it. There's a possibility to run a sting operation to see if they can bag these guys. Note that an online prostitution site would probably affect other nearby cities as well; the various local law enforcement departments share information as most criminals do not restrict their activities within a specific town's city limits.

You get what you paid for. These idiots wanted to get screwed, and they did!

The story in the Palo Alo Daily Post mentioned the website. Said it's called Badoo.com

Maybe stake out that apartment complex.

Usually, thieves don't think outside the box and I wouldn't be surprised if one of them lives there.

Also, who are these people that are able to get $2,000 in cash? Even if I had that much money in my bank account, the ATM limit is $500 a day.

Also, police need to get the dating site and/or some IP addresses.

Good scam, I guess, but either really ballsy or really short-sighted to rob at the same place 2 nights in a row.

So it is not a prostitution site like people keep suggesting. If the PA Daily Post is correct, then it is a personals site, and could happen on ANY personals site or craigslist and such. Crimes like this happen every day from such sites (I am pretty cautious about sites like craigslist these days). Bottom line is, if a "girl" on a site says "meet me and bring money" you have to be gullible enough to fall for it.

@guerno:

The first john apparently appropriated ("borrowed") the $2000 from his employer.

Anyone who works in the restaurant business has fairly easy access to several grand in cash at closing time. Heck, at a good restaurant or bar, *one* server or bartender may finish his/her shift with hundreds in tips, cash.

Remember, a full Type 47 ABC license (beer, wine, hard alcohol) is a six-figure sum, you better make sure you're ringing in enough sales.

The day's cash would be stored in a safe in the manager's office. It's not like some assistant restaurant manager would make a bank deposit at 2am. Too dangerous.

If I were dumb enough to fall for this I'd be way too embarrassed to report it to the police.

I'd take the loss and learn from my mistakes.

Excellent opportunity for a police sting operation! Hiring a prostitute is illegal, so the 'evidence' could be siezed. Way better than some silly traffic stop!

Nah, keep up the aggressive traffic patrols. The roads have finally calmed down now that drivers know they are in the cross hairs.
I guess that's why the police have a traffic division and a crimes division and a vice division: they can multi-task! Love them ticket writin' men in blue!
