Knowing this lady kept a huge file of offers by commercial developers, and never replied over the years, it would seem unthinkable that the city would turn around and try to develop it commercially, right? Just checking.

@Thanks, I feel the same way. Ms. Stieper put her faith in the Council, and I would be so disappointed in them if this were developed. Also, isn't there some way to save the house? It sounds like a labor of love that shouldn't be destroyed without further consideration for some sort of private or public use. And John Inks? Maybe he doesn't need my vote next time if he can't see the value of this park over private development.

Frances Stieper could have walked away with a huge bundle of cash, but she didn't. I hope the Park and Rec will keep as many trees and build a nice play area at Stieper Park.

It will be interesting to see what eventually is done with this property. The City Council seems to be condo-happy lately.

We'll start hearing talk about how we need "affordable" housing in the area. Next thing you know they put 100 apartments on the place with 6 of them deemed "below market rate".

If this lady wanted the property to become a park she should have stipulated that in the sale.

Today while hiking at Rancho San Antonio, we were commenting how wonderful the shade trees are in the hot summer. The trees also are a great habitat for our birds.

How rare to have such a plot with mature, beautiful trees on it in the middle of a busy neighborhood. Thank you to the City Council for voting to acquire it! It really only makes sense to make this gesture in order for it to end up being a park - I hope the Council follows through and creates a park for the neighborhood and MV residents to enjoy.
