I am a nonunion construction laborer. I spent today working with a jackhammer and assisting my boss, an electrician, who was cutting trenches in a concrete slab. I have been a nonunion construction laborer and carpenter for 10 years and have worked all over these 50 continental United States of America.
I am also a degreed economist, as I've stated elsewhere.
Unions should be abolished. In particular, unions of people on government payrolls should be abolished. No market should be subjected to government meddling to set prices. Elected government officials should focus on operating government efficiently and transparently.
I have worked many jobs at prevailing wage. The prevailing wage rate schedule is idiotic. On one job, I worked as a carpenter for $33 per hour next to unskilled laborers who were pushing brooms at $31 per hour. Stupid. Insane.
I am a carpenter and a laborer, and I am totally, militantly anti union. If you do a partial equilibrium analysis of a labor market, the mathematics is unambiguous in establishing that unionizing part of the market raises the wages of those who are unionized and LOWERS the wages of those who prefer freedom to communism.
Unions are communist. Unions are destroying this country. None of the rationales for unionism hold any water whatsoever. This is yet another area of the dumbing of America.

What is a "prevailing wage" anyway? It's arbitrary.
This is just the city council following the orders of their union overlords. The unions help get them elected. The unions expect something in return.
