Sad to see this place go. I've only been there a few times but I know lots of people who are regulars.

I had fond memories of this place when I was a child. Then it was knows as "The Red Barn" which was a chain.

Sorry to see it go, but what an ideal location for a Chik-fil-a drive through!

Although I have only lived in Mountain View for 13 years, I believe the Shaw Family to be one of the most precious commodities of this community. Between caring for our children at PDCC and feeding the masses of the South Bay since 1966, this family has touched nearly all of us. And for that, I say thank you!

I too will miss the Country Gourmet. It has been an important part of my life.

I can still see "The Red Barn" sitting there...good memories, not so great food :)
Hopefully they'll put in another decent restaurant and not some shlocky homogenized fast food chain.

My wife and I are going one last time before it closes. It has been one of our favorite restaurants. We will miss it!

oh,wow, I am not shocked. I have never been there and I have been in this town for 20+ years. May be I should visit this place before they shut it down completely. I have a strong hunch that there is going to be another taqueria in this location which will be another list of restaurants that I never go purely because they are all unhealthy , unhygienic and completely filthy establishments.

I don't think you had better go before it closes. You will be so sorry. It is fantastic food, great service, as well as affordable. You will then kick yourself for not going sooner.

I don't know why everyone will miss this restaurant. It is so overpriced and the food was tired both times I was there. Guess I must have hit it on bad days....also service was awful....

Yes, CHICK-FIL-A!!! Perfect location -- right on a corner, good sized lot. Even our City Council would have to approve it this time?

The chick-fil-a owners are homophobes, so why would a city want to bend over backwards to help spread their discrimination? Drive thru restaurants are a bad idea anyway, so i don't see why we would make an exception for a company that is run by haters.

Diversity, it might have something to do with tolerance. In particular, tolerance for DIVERSITY of ideas. Refusing to do business with a company because you don't agree with the opinions of the owners of that business is not tolerance. Imposing political correctness upon businesses, politicians, art committee chairs, and your other neighbors does not promote DIVERSITY.

I agree. It would be a perfect location for a Chick-Fil-A. Mountain View needs a Chick-Fil-A. Mountain View also needs people who dress themselves up as tolerant for diversity to start practicing what they preach. Tolerance for speech is an important kind of tolerance.

It is a perfect spot for any type of restaurant, but it will be a shame if an independent, hometown, family-owned establishment with lots of local history is replaced by a fast food joint like Chik-Fil-A. Like many others, I'm sorry to see it go, too.

Anyone know the origins of that run-down, dusty, dilapidated, ramshackle old ice cream stand on El Camino? It's near Panda Express.

I went in Country Gourmet two times but it was chaotic. I never ate there. I waited ten minutes at the door without ever getting even a greeting. The food looked good as I watched it pass by me on trays.

In general, I prefer sit-down restaurants to fast food take out. More peaceful dining, less trash blowing around, and healthier food options. What kind of a name is Chick-fil-a? Fill what?

Why put in a fast food/garbage food store? Don't people have higher aspirations? Sad.

Its more about not wanting a Mountain View with t homogenized look of every other city. Hopefully a local independent restaurant locates there and thrives. McD's? Jack in the Box? Chick-fil-a, Taco Bell...national fast food that you can get everywhere. I hope someone local opens up a breakfast and (good) burger place. No profits will be shipped away, out of MV to corporate HQ if that happens.

I don't understand the need of a fast food chicken sandwich which I had a few times. OK, it was good but nothing really to write home about but then I am not a fan of KFC. Would be nice to see a BBQ chicken joint with corn on the cob with real mash potatoes. Cold Beer.

People in the marketplace will decide the best use of the land. Imposing your personal preferences is is not useful if the majority of people want something else. Private owners should bear the risk of deciding what people want, not individuals unwilling to risk their own money to back up their ideas.

Hey--if chicfila wants to put in a sit down restaurant there instead of a drive-thru, then I have no objection. If they want permission to create a traffic and smog problem with a drive-thru, all I'm saying is that we shouldn't grant them an exception. Exceptions are given to companies that provide a public benefit and this particular operation is negative in several areas, including their discrimminatory outlook

LOL @ Diversity. Are you kidding? Drive anywhere on a weeknight (5pm - 7pm) at any of the main arteries (Shoreline, San Antonio, Rengstorff, and El Camino/85).
See how many cars are sitting, waiting for lights, and traffic to move.

Now swing by any of the fast food places during that time or even lunch (Jack in the box, Carl's Jr. McDonald's, etc) and see how many cars are sitting at the drive thru. You'll see where the real problem is.

People in the city council want to make that (drive-thru) excuse, saying it will create traffic, smog, ect.

Penalizing people for having politically incorrect opinions is intolerance of a diversity of ideas, which in our system of self government is the most important kind of diversity.

Regarding diverse thinking...by your logic, you would allow child molesters to teach in our schools and hire active KKK members to do outreach to POC in schools. Diversity doesn't mean to mix gasoline and fire. Does this really need to be said?

Diversity raises an issue that fascinates me about our notions of free speech: Is speech information, or is it programming? Our legal system in the U.S. implements the view that speech is information. My view is that speech is programming.

Intelligent people instinctively understand that speech is both information and programming. Today, we have a "let the listener beware" policy for adults and a protective policy for children. IOW, in the United States, the law makes no attempt to protect audiences of adults from harmful speech, but for audiences of children, the emphasis is on protection and the law takes little if any interest in the right of children to have access to all viewpoints that are available.
