Mad Max on the roads

Original post made by Garrett, another community, on Mar 27, 2013

No Mad Max really is not out there, but the way people are driving seems to be something. I drive for a living so some of the stuff I see it crazy. Rules of the road and Common Sense should be followed along with patience.

24/7 the roads are used by different person for different uses, while you drive to where ever that might be, work, school or even errands. You aren't the only one driving, if you are late you aren't the only one, so slow down and have some patience.

Common Sense is important, everyday we encounter the same thing on our way to work, past by a school, crosswalk or some kind of bike riders. Be prepared for something or anything, the same goes with pedestrian and cyclists. Know your route, slow down when needed and patience.

Where you need to go might not be that important, is it worth getting into a accident or worse.

So Drive safe, Slow down, show patience and enjoy your drive.

Don't just pay attention to the car in front of you. Look for pedestrians in or near crosswalks. If the pedestrian is trying to make eye contact with you, then you really need to stop and let her cross. Every intersection is a legal crosswalk, even if there are no painted lines on the street.

I frequently see 'Mad Maxes" riding their bikes on the sidewalk (even where there are bike lanes available), whizzing through the crosswalks, nearly running down pedestrians, and not wearing bike helmets.

I am used to watching for pedestrians, but when I go to turn right at an intersection I now have to watch for 20mph bikes bearing down on me from further up the sidewalk and zipping out into the crosswalk.

And to the "Mad Max" in the car behind me, please don't honk at me for stopping at the stop sign or red light before turning (as the law requires) and for not running down the pedestrians and bicyclists in the crosswalk!
