What's up w/ all the cops @ Shoreline/101

Original post made by Fun to See, Blossom Valley, on Feb 21, 2013

Every morning for a while, about 8am or so I see 3 or more MV cops sitting on the shoulder of the Northbound 101 freeway entrance. They regularly have 2 or 3 cars pulled over getting tickets. Are these carpool lane violators or...? Whatever the issue is, lots of drivers are being busted for it every day, which I guess is cool for the city's revenues. Just wondering what all those people are doing to deserve the ticket?

You should pose your question on the MVPD Facebook page or to their Twitter @mountainviewPD They are pretty responsive.

They would be doing the community a more important service by patrolling the area around our schools during the mornings and afternoons. Three kids hit on their way to school in one week? Their first priority should be to provide public safety, but evidently raising cash for the city machine has replaced that.

I know what's going on with MV cops pulling drivers over on the Shoreline entrance to north 101. Even though there are no signs indicating that you can't go straight across Shoreline (from the Shoreline exit ramp), the MV cops are ticketing motorists for this infraction. If you are going north on 101, and because the traffic is stopped (which it has been for about 5 years, thanks to a terrible engineering redesign of the roads/ramps there...and ongoing construction)you get off at the Shoreline exit. But at the top of the exit, if you see that the traffic is now moving on 101 - they are not allowing the option to get back on 101. It is an unnecessary limit to options for MV residents that have been living with the increasingly difficult traffic conditions in that area. But here is the real shocker - the unclear signage has created a large revenue stream for MV cops. Statistics: 1,253 tickets have been issued for this particular citation at Shoreline and 1010 from March'12-March'13. That's a lot, approximately 100 per month. But the numbers for January and February 2013 are even higher - 272 in January and 287 in February! I call this harrassment. The MV cops are taking advantage of poor signage to increase their revenue stream. If more residents speak out, maybe something can be done to either improve the signs - or allow this option to get back on 101. We need more options - not less - to help us deal with the ongoing terrible traffic @101 and Shoreline!
