Ideafarm breaks his silence

Original post made on Feb 11, 2013

A controversial Mountain View man has broken his long silence and is once again speaking out against the city and the county for what he claims is a violation of his First Amendment rights.

Watch below and lets see how angry people get over this guy. It cracks me up how he has woven himself into some people's fabric, and they always seem to be the people least tolerant of irritations like him...almost like a cat who finds the one person in the room who hates cats, then curls up in their lap.

Anyway, pulling up a chair and settling in to be entertained by MV's angry villagers. Let'er rip!

Is this the same guy who has that car with all those signs on it? I think those are more of an extreme vegan stance. I think he might also have a boat that he parks. I dunno. Do we have more than one wingnut in Mountain View?

Oh well, this is not getting as heated as "pitchforks and torches" was hoping for. I think he is the only person all that interested in the story.

As for multiple wingnuts, it has always facinated me how many of these types there are in a place the size of Mountain View. Makes me wonder what the community size event horizon is until you can start expecting at least one nut.

I'm not a wingnut! I do have a sense of humor, but the disrespect is harmful because it ruins what could be an intelligent conversation.

You won't believe what the Mountain View Municipal Corporation has done, or how much of your money it has spent, on keeping me silenced and tangled up in court in a fight that is now in its third year.

I need people to help me tell the story or it simply won't get told and I will be creamed like a bug on a windshield. Please take the time to find out what is going on, discuss it with each other, and DO SOMETHING meaningful to help me tell the story.

I am not doing this to entertain you. I am not a TV show. This is real, and my ass is in the sling.

Ideafarm, you've always had a disjointed and confusing message. Your signs stopped sparking my curiosity long ago when I figured out that you couldn't be figured out. After all these years I still have no idea what you're trying to communicate. You aren't doing anyone any favors and you're wasting taxpayer dollars.

I've enjoyed the last two years without having to read your mindless drivel. Please, either find a way to express yourself intelligently or get incarcerated again. If at all possible, get yourself evaluated. I seriously think you could benefit from professional help. People will stop calling you a wingnut if you get yourself tightened down.

Mr. Ideafarm,

Couldn't you easily get your rear end out of said sling by conforming to some simple rules while exercising your 1st Amendment rights, namely, by not doing it by blocking vehicle or pedestrian traffic? Why give the authorities an easy excuse to haul you in? Isn't it more satisfying to get your message out and still be able to sleep in your own bed?

On a more substantive note, are there any major local, state, federal or world issues that you specifically feel strongly about commenting on? I think there are probably many ills in the world that concern you, I would be interested in seeing signs on those topics. When I saw you standing at Charleston and San Antonio on Saturday, I think you were waving the 'all for one, one for all' sign. Which is a nice sentiment. But its not obvious how to put that into action.

I'm all for free speech and all. If the people would just let him be, he would have been in san mateo by now. :) But with all the fuss, he has found a home in Mt. View. People and police seem to really like him here. To the point were he is ready to make a film script and novel about his experiences and sell them to Hollywood. Or Bollywood.

Welcome back! There's something comforting about a citizen exercising his free speech rights on a Mountain View street-corner. This man and his signs are a nuisance. I'm all for free speech, but enough is enough. It's apparent he just wants the attention and will do anything to get our police department to spend their way too valuable time and energy in getting him off our streets (and into jail). To you, Mr. Ideafarm, I say: give us a break and leave town, and do yourself and many others a favor and get some psychological help. No one wants to read your signs, cares what you have to say, or wants you around.

I've seen this clown and his signs over the years at the corner of Castro and ECR. Frankly I don't like him much BUT I do think his is within his rights vav "free speech".

Being annoying doesn't cancel that right. Authorities must not be allowed to cancel that central right that most of us don't really exercise in a focussed and public way. We actually take it forgranted in our daily lives BECAUSE we use it effectively so rarely.

The measure of "Freedom of Speech" is how society responds when someone says something we don't like or don't agree with. If society via its institutions moves to suppress that "speech" then that means we don't really support that freedom.

I am disappointed in people who are criticizing this guy or mocking him. Unfortunately the people who don't like him are ignorant and arrogant. Now imagine how these morons would behave in a neighborhood infested by gangsters and thugs. Freedom of speech is a precious right that everyone has and stop calling him names like "wingnut", "weirdo",etc.. Just appreciate the fact that this guy has the rights to take on a corrupt city council, crooked judges and police in our system. Do you ignorant people know how crooked the judges and police in our system are? they keep ripping us of every year with over time pay and play golf at our expense during work. and don;t forget they travel like emperors at our expense and cheat in expense forms.

Wow.. all you freedom haters out there are at it again.

What's the point of having a right if no one can see/hear you? If you can't hold a sign on a sidewalk where can you hold a sign? There are sidewalks everywhere these days. Are you supposed to only express yourself on your front lawn? Hope enough people come by to get your message out. What if you don't have a front lawn?

I can see the safety issues with blocking traffic. If that is what happened. I don't know the details there.

However just standing on a sidewalk with a sign should be a protected 1st amendment activity if ever there was such a thing.

You don't have to like what is being said. You don't even have to understand the message. You may even be offended. It's not illegal to be offensive. Freedom of speech is a right we all enjoy and we should thank the people who exercise that right. Even if it's not our message they carry. Because a right unexercised is a right lost.

I've talked to Mr. Ideafarm once. He used to park his trailer close to my home. His message was interesting. I didn't join his group but if you actually stop to talk to him he can tell you exactly what he's trying to accomplish.

Mr Ideafarm,

Thank you making Mountain View interesting and for weighing in on this forum. May I suggest two tweaks to your activities that would increase your impact:

1. Focus on one issue. I, and others in this comment thread, don't know what you stand for, because your signs have said so many things over the years.

2. Please stay on the sidewalks, so the risk of an accident (or arrest) is reduced.

Best Regards,

Martin Omander

@Ron, the idea behind my original post was a preemptive strike to try and have the usual "haters" who pop up, maybe not pop up this time.
As you can see for the most above, reverse psychology, part does have its place. A solid base of support has been built, which is more like MV really is. Tolerant.

Pitchforks and Torches: What a wonderful idea you had, and it worked!

Rather than use this forum as a soapbox, I am going to simply ask each and every one of you to "do your homework" by listening to the two audio recordings of the police that are on IDEAFARM.COM . Then read the short narrative there that describes what I did and how MVPD responded between January 21 and today.

The current situation is that I cannot display any signs anywhere in Mountain View because, if I do, I will be arrested for another count of Penal Code 370/372, which is the general public nuisance statute. Any two year old knows that a nuisance statute cannot be applied to speech. But MVPD has already done it. Aladdin Bail Bonds deposited THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS with the CORRUPT Superior Court to get me out. If I try to hold my signs in Mountain View, MVPD will do it again. Aladdin isn't going to keep risking huge amounts of money on me; if I get imprisoned again, I might not be able to get out.

The Mountain View Municipal Corporation and District Attorney Jeff Rosen are trying to make sure that I can't tell the story of what they have done over these three years. Unless people rally to my side, I won't be able to. I need you people to wake up to the brazen CORRUPTION that I can prove if I can keep my freedom long enough to get the most outrageous and incriminating audio recordings up onto IDEAFARM.COM . It's going to take me months to get the story told there. I NEED YOU TO STAND WITH ME IN A MEANINGFUL WAY.

Here's what I want you to do. I want you to read my web site, which is short since I've just begun to put it together. Then I want you to send me an email that says, essentially, "Mr. Ideafarm, I can see that you are in deep [Portion removed due to offensive language] . What do you need me to do?"

This is not television. This is for real. What you think is real is only a charade. Your government views you with contempt, and rightly so. You are powerless and you are clueless. Worse, you know it, and you are OK with it. You are not good, strong men. You are not good, strong women. You are, mentally, emotionally, and morally, children.

You know that I am "for real". Show me that you are for real. We have some work to do to put things into proper order for the children who will inherit this mess.

Wo'O Ideafarm: what are the formal names / docket numbers of your case(s), and when are they going to trial?

If you were *blocking* the street or sidewalk, then they can definitely cite you for that, signs or no.

If you were just standing on the sidewalk, or parked legally, and holding provocative signs, they definitely *can't* cite you for that, and you should fight back — in court, not be just getting arrested again.

Have you gotten a lawyer yet? Talked with the ACLU or similar organizations?

It'll come down to the exact facts around your arrests, and (no offense) I don't want to presume that you're not leaving something out that's important to justifying them. But *if* your arrests were *just* motivated by your speech, you should be able to not just beat the charge, but sue under eg a §1983 action (which includes legal fees).

Liz is right. We need to spend more on promoting the awareness of prominent gays in our community. We need to have role models for our youth, and an installation in City Hall, detailing the contributions of the gay heroes that have come before us, would be great for education and tolerance.

Free speech absolutist here. Sad but unsurprised to see all the voices trying to suppress Ideafarm. Holding a sign is not a "public nuisance" and if that's actually all he's accused of (a big "if") then the MV establishment is definitely trampling on his 1st Ammendment rights.

Mr. Ideafarm: That said, I agree with the other (sympathetic) commenters that your message is hopelessly garbled and unintelligible. Your website is a disorganized and unreadable mess. You fight for free speech and and then throw out anti-gay slurs and, if memory serves, other not-so-progressive slogans on your signs.

I support and will defend 100% your right to say and do anything you want as long as you don't step on the rights of other non-consenting adults. But understand that you need clear, concise talking points that MAKE SENSE. Also please remember Martin Luther King's dictum: "You have no moral authority with those for whom you have underlying contempt."

Peace & Love

Makes me want to help him. I like being mocked.

Like it or not, freedom of speech has limitations.

This guy is so hypocritical, it really is mind-boggling how he has the guts to ridicule others. He wants tolerance, then shows his intolerance for homosexuals. He calls us bad men, all the while having never directly admitted to spousal abuse, never taking responsibility for his own actions, only blaming "the system" for his failures. I'm still waiting for him to repeat the drivel he has posted for years regarding "Hispanic colonists" and his views on the role of women in society (the feminization of America).

This guy is a performer, and Mountain View is his stage. He wants our attention, and he is getting it. But it is not a free show, we're paying for this.

Well, at the very least he is amusing.

Mr. Ideafarm: I get that a broke, homeless person is pretty much screwed when it comes to explaining how the system has unfairly abused you. But only a clear, concise explanation will work if your goal is to enlist the support of the community. A very clear "just the facts" timeline without emotion or vitriol would be helpful.

>> Um, the "snapshots" of the censorship are here

Yes, you found them. Thank you for making the effort.

>> The website is a wilderness of mirrors.

Yes, I agree. The website sucks totally. That's because it is a "knowledge tree", which is a new kind of writing in which sentences in paragraphs are clickable. Although an introduction is provided, basically I am just hoping that most people will be curious enough to play with it and, when they do, they will "grok" what is happening. Novices should only climb up and down one level at a time. This is done by clicking only on the italicized topic sentences, never on a detail sentence.

I remember when Google was new. It was totally foreign to me even though I was an experienced Yahoo user. It took me six months to click "feeling lucky" or to do anything other than just enter something into the search box. IdeaFarm (tm) Knowledge Trees are 100x as novel as Google was. I don't have the money, the time, or the help that I would need to launch IdeaFarm (tm) Knowlege Trees correctly. So I just did it as best that I can. Those who are adventurous: play with it. Once you grok it, you will say, "Aha. This is simple!" The topology of an IdeaFarm (tm) Knowledge Tree really is simple, and if you persist, you will suddenly grok how the web site works.

>> only a clear, concise explanation will work if your goal is to enlist the support of the community. A very clear "just the facts" timeline without emotion or vitriol would be helpful.

I agree. I intend to do that using the knowledge tree technology. The facts, such as a chronology, will be in the "Facts" and "Law" sections. My first goal is to get a full overview chronology up. Those sections will be dry reading, but it will be concise and, eventually, fully verifiable with references into all relevant documents and audio recordings and other evidence, which will also be uploaded.

After I get the chronology up, I plan to do some news format writing that is more readable and more fun to read. That writing will be either in the "Real News" or in the "Uncensored Opinion" sections. Those writings will contain references into relevant material in the Facts and Law sections.

I envision The IdeaFarm (tm) Organizer to be a hybrid between a periodical and a book. Initially, I will be providing all of the content and that content will be focused on exposing what Jeff Rosen and the Mountain View Municipal Corporation have done and are doing to silence and imprison and destroy me. But I hope that others quickly begin to use the forum by submitting writings and that the forum quickly grows beyond its birth focus on my fight with corrupt government.

I am like a man drowning in the surf, in plain view of the people on a crowded beach. I am being attacked by sharks. Which part of, "Aiiiiyoooouuuuu! Help! Ayiiiiieeeee!" do you all not comprehend? Lift a finger to save me, and I will empower you all. It is not just me floundering in the surf. I am floundering because I am struggling to hang onto a rope connected to a huge treasure chest. The treasure is for you. If I go under, both I and the treasure will be lost.

Idea Farm is not some colorful kook or some martyr for free speech. He is a mentally ill man how is unable to communicate with other people and has taken to holding up signs in a sad attempt to get people to listen to him.

Idea Farm inability to communicate with other has a darker side as he has had to resort to violence to try to get his ideas across. He is a violent man who hits women. His wife left him because he hit her. His arrest in January 2011 was due to him hitting a woman who he thought had taken down his sign.

He needs serious professional help. Until he can get his mental issues addressed or at least controlled, he needs to be off the street and away from people he can physically harm.

Don't focus on my defects as a person. Everyone has defects. For someone who has a sense of civic duty, the most interesting thing, maybe the only interesting thing, about my situation is that I claim to have proof of brazen, repeated corruption against the Mountain View Municipal Corporation, the Superior Court of Santa Clara County, and its officers Jeff Rosen and Mary Greenwood.

>> His arrest in January 2011 was due to him hitting a woman who he thought had taken down his sign.

I didn't just think it. I have a video recording of her actually doing it. The video recording, combined with the high quality audio recording that captures all of the dialog during the 6 1/2 minutes that I detained Anne Dochez as we waited for the police to arrive, leaves no reasonable doubt as to what Anne Dochez was doing and why she was doing it. The police had this recording when they decided to imprison me and charge me with a felony.

The chronology of what happened between Jan. 21 and today is already up on the web site, along with audio recordings and other documents that show that it is accurate. Given six months, I can do the same thing on a larger scale to present a chronology of three years of government wrongdoing.

I am going to try to get a WordPress blog up and running today. It will be readable by everyone but writeable only by subscribers. It will feature ZERO CENSORING. That blog will be a place where I can help new visitors figure out the topology of the web site. It will also be a place where UNCENSORED conversation can occur.

Finally, I said it poorly because I was starving and exhausted and discouraged. Yes, you are children. Spoiled children. Selfish, spoiled brat children with grey hair who did not get a good upbringing by a good, strong man and a good strong woman who worked hard to turn their true love for each other into a family for you as you grew up.

My signs were designed to awaken you and to raise up the issues that divide this community, to raise up those issues into plain sight, into the glare of the sun, so that those issues can be resolved, the divisions healed. My signs, and all that I have to say, were intended to be the first word, not the last word. I cannot say much on a small sign. You should have come to me, as many others did, to ask me what the signs meant. You should have discussed the signs with your friends, with your priests or ministers or rabbis or gurus, with your teachers, with your parents. If you did not do these things, you are the cause of your own ignorance.

Spoiled, selfish children. Who among you has lifted a finger to save me in my hour of need? Send me an email that says, "What do you need me to do?" I will list for you several ways that you can "lift a finger" to make a significant difference without feeling any pain whatsoever. What you decide, everyone else will decide. Either we will together do a very good thing, or I will be destroyed, along with the treasure that I had hoped to deliver to you and to your children.

This is something worth doing and something that I cannot do by myself, especially while having to fend off continued harassment by the Mountain View Municipal Corporation on the streets and in court.

Anyone can read the forum. Only subscribers can write to it. Posts will appear immediately and you can say anything that is protected speech and you can choose the words that you use. IOW, ZERO CENSORING and ZERO SPAM.

I have also published a brief statement of my viewpoint on the fight over the definition of the word "marriage". Join me there for what I expect to be a far more intelligent conversation, for the simple reason that posts are not anonymous. We can discuss any of my signs, such as the signs about Mexican colonists or about speaking English. We can discuss anything that you want to discuss, and you will not be censored.

$2 / month to participate in what might be the first forum of its kind dedicated to uncensored, vigorous, yet respectful free speech on public issues.

The right to free speech is important. Not just speech we want to hear but everything. That does not mean we have to agree with the speech or that the person making the speech should not be held accountable for what they say. I find it concerning that IdeaFarm was arrested for nuisance. I have stopped and talked with him and do not agree with anything he says. But I really loved that I live in a place where he could say those things. What words can we all be arrested for under "nuisance"?

Wendeec, you do not live in such a place. I truly am banished from Mountain View on the threat of another count of PC 370/372, the general public nuisance statute. This is for holding a sign on the street in a way that violates no Vehicle Code statute. Ironically, the sign says, "MTN. VIEW VERSUS FREE SPEECH / READ ABOUT IT @ IDEAFARM.COM".

Every day that I am not working as a day laborer, I am on San Antonio Rd. at its intersection with Charleston, holding that sign. I can do it there because that section of San Antonio is in Palo Alto. Your policing agency in Mountain View is out of control, or, more precisely, the Constitutions of the United States and of California are no longer in force within Mountain View.

I can prove this, if just a few people would stand with me in a meaningful way. It will take me six months of focused, full time work to "write the book" that will blow the lid off of the corrupt Mountain View Municipal Corporation and the "bought and paid for" Superior Court of Santa Clara County. If people don't stand with me, I am going to be creamed like a bug on a windshield. Yet no one does anything. It is as if you all think that I am some sort of TV show that exists only for your entertainment.

IdeaFarm your kinda weird bro, I get what your doing and I agree with free speech but you pose safety concerns on Mountain Views busiest street. With 6 lanes of 35+ mile an hour traffic you decide to park your huge van with crazy signs that by the replies no one gets/understands anyway. Justify all you want but I am sure MVPD gave you multiple warnings. If you continued to annoy the police why wouldn't they throw you in jail for a night? That being said with a $30,000 bail tehy really wanted to show you a lesson. You should just let it go in my opinion.

Sean, I am eccentric. Don't buy in to the safety smoke. This is not about, and has never been about, safety. I am a civic speaker who uses an extremely powerful general method of spontaneous direct speech to present ideas that threaten significant local economic and political interests. This local government has used unlawful methods to silence and imprison me and to confiscate all of my speech equipment.

Your reality is a charade; it is constructed for you by a local press that "steers" your thoughts. You do not have any idea how corrupt and evil this local government is. You do not, until now, have a clue. I am your clue.
