Saddle up for safety

On a chilly and overcast Monday morning, a class of Huff Elementary School students clambered onto bicycles, strapped on helmets and peddled their way through an obstacle course simulating the potential hazards they might encounter while riding to school.

Very important to teach kids to watch out for drivers with cell phones. Those drivers are at best staring down the center of the road and not paying attention to bicyclists on the right edge of the lane. Bicyclists need to stay several feet away from the right edge of the road to be safe and visible.

Neat idea. I hope it sinks in, but even if not, it sounds like the kids had fun.

Whatever we can do to keep our kids safe from the people I see driving around these parts.
