Charity Knitting and Crocheting Project

Original post made by Hannah and Allison, Blossom Valley, on Jan 7, 2013

Hannah and Allison are eighth grade Cadette Girl Scouts from Los Altos troop 60755 working to earn their Girl Scout Silver Award. Their Silver project involves knitting and crocheting hats and scarves for donation to the homeless in our community, and they are asking for your help.

There are nearly 390 homeless men, women, and children on the streets trying to survive the cold winter in the Los Altos and Mountain View communities. Allison and Hannah are working with Community Services Agency (CSA) to provide the homeless in our community with handmade hats and scarves. Their goal is to make and donate to CSA as many hats and scarves as possible. In turn, CSA will distribute the warm items to homeless individuals in our community. In addition to assisting the homeless, CSA offers valuable emergency assistance, senior assistance services, and a holiday sharing program.

If you would like to get involved with the knitting and crocheting project for charity, the girls would appreciate any basic knitted or crocheted hats and scarves. Handmade items may be dropped off at the Mountain View Senior Center (266 Escuela Avenue, Mountain View) or Uncommon Threads (293 State Street, Los Altos). If you would like to arrange for a pickup of your donation, or if you have questions about the project, please send an email
to: knit4mv-la@yahoo.com. The goal of Allison's and Hannah's Silver project is to collect this season's hats and scarves by the end of March, 2013. CSA can use help from the community on an ongoing basis and is located at 204 South Stierlin Road, in Mountain View.
