I use the trail quite a bit, but I'm constantly on the lookout for trouble, especially in densely wooded areas when nobody else is around. People like to pretend they're taking a walk in the woods, but the reality is this trail is in the middle of a crime-infested urban area, and the trail offers good cover for the criminal element.

While I agree that people always need to be alert on the trail, I had to chuckle a bit when I read "this trail is in the middle of a crime-infested urban area"

Crime "infested"? Right now people from Detroit are laughing and saying "Aww, how cute. They think they have crime"

Also note that the time of the incident was 7:55pm, which would've been after dark, so it's especially important to be alert on the trail during hours of darkness. The location near the Evelyn entrance is also where I have seen guys hanging out and drinking on past occasions.

I often use the trail one or more times per week, but only during daylight.

what exactly it means by 'be on the alert'? Do we walk around with a big stick or a sword and move sideways in small steps? or dress up like a Ninja and jump from one position to another position? This article and the MV police are laughable characters. Crime happens everywhere and it can happen anytime anywhere? I don't see how I can be on the alert all the time and be vigilant everywhere if the Police are not doing their job instead of hanging around Starbucks and Krispy creme.

Seriously "dummy dude", you could not have picked your name better. Do you really think crime does not just happen anywhere? And to you really have to act like a ninja to just "be alert"? And since the MV Police cannot be on EVERY corner and trail at all times (unless you want to live in a complete police state with 5,000 police officers around) WHAT do you expect them to do? They cannot be omni-present. Grow up and realize that we all need to be aware of the world around us and take some personal responsibility for our own safety.

This comment is to whomever moderates the comments section. I fully understand the need to keep things civil, but editing can go too far as well. You removed my one short line with the word "dolt" for being disrespectful or offensive, but have no problem with a line above stereotypically accusing officers of being lazy and hanging out at Krispy creme. My comment seemed pretty tame really.
