Waste and Inefficiency at City Hall

Original post made by Jes' Sayin', Blossom Valley, on Oct 20, 2012

You won't be surprised that the streets and roadways of our fair city are stored by city hall in a grand database. What might surprise you though is that it's not one database, but three. Yep, that's right. The police department has their version, the fire department their version and the streets and roads division theirs. And they differ. A road in one might or might not be in another, or they may have different names. So the fire department might call in the police department giving a road name that is not in or different in the latter's database.

First of all, if you're in databases, or any high tech field, how shocked are you right now by this level of duplication? We in high tech labor and labor to make things better and yet our highly-paid/highly-pensioned civil servants see fit to waste our money with this kind of nonsense, bloating their budgets just to duplicate services that already exist.

Who will put a stop to this nonsense? If you encounter any candidates for the city council, you might like to ask them, if elected, what they plan to do to change this and no doubt other ridiculous situations like it.
