If the crosswalks are hard for car drivers to see, then make them easier to see! Remove car parking for 20 yards on each side of the crosswalk. Post school zone signs around the school to encourage drivers to slow down and pay attention. Install extra bright street lights near the crosswalk (especially during the winter when kids are walking to school in the dark).

If all the kids were hit in the same 2 crosswalk, why doesn't the school post crossing guards there?

Remember a few years ago when council instituted a road diet after a few Graham kids were involved in accidents. What will they do now? Maybe go back to widening the road to allow more visibility?

This article was written on October 12th 2012, which according to my calculations was 4 years and (almost exactly) 4 months ago, not even close to 6+ years ago. To date, the road diet on Castro Street between El Camino Real and Miramonte has not been implemented - other than one lane of Castro Street between El Camino Real and Sonia being blocked every weekday for construction work unrelated to any safety improvements. Other than sticking some fluorescent flags in signs indicating where the crosswalks on Castro Street near Graham are. I have noticed ZERO safety improvements in the 4+ years since the road diet was approved, not even the relative simple solution of adding a crossing guard during the busy morning drop off time and again when school lets out in the afternoon. It's shameful, really.

The road diet has yet to be implemented but it is coming soon now.
