Could anyone help me understand why a successful suburban hospital that brings in quite a bit of money through the services it provides should still be receiving a large taxpayer subsidy, rather than operating like a normal, private, unsubsidized non-profit hospital?

Let us get new blood at El Camino Hospital; old board members had the opportunity to introduce many innovations and necessary restrictions that never were implemented.

To answer your question with a question - Why should they operate independently when they can get their normal income plus also get taxpayer money and not have any accountability to taxpayers?
Why is there a hospital corporation? Shouldn't the hospital district own the hospital directly without this intermediate unaccountable layer? The school district owns the schools and the city owns city hall and the water district owns its wells and the community college district owns the colleges.

Get Wes Alles out of there...he has proven to be worthless...has wasted mountains of cash on his personnel vendettas and has no business telling others how to run a hospital.

Hey Bo! Can you elaborate? Especially on the "personnel" vendettas? Or is it personal? Not trying to be a grammar snob, I'm just wondering if you mean he goes after hospital personnel (hospital employees) he doesn't like or if you mean he is pursuing personal vendettas (that could be outside the hospital).

Anybody that actually knows or have worked with Wes Alles, would attest that he's a highly intelligent and thoughtful man. The "personal vendettas" comment could not be further from the truth.
