Fluoride is a mineral that helps prevent cavities and tooth decay to keep your teeth strong! Fluoride comes in two varieties: topical applied directly on the teeth or as part of your diet in a supplement. The most commonly used is the topical form found in toothpaste or in a fluoride rinse. The team at Drobocky Orthodontics recommends fluoride to help maintain healthy teeth for children, teens, and adults undergoing orthodontic treatment.

Surprising to know that fluoride has so many advantages on teeth. But a review of brain studies involving the use of fluoride has concluded that one of the adverse effects of fluoride exposure on children is damage to their neurological development. Its always better not to use much fluoride over children. Today children at a tender age are made to go through orthodontic treatments to create room for erupting teeth Web Link and for similar reasons, so traces of fluoride are consumed by them. These traces of fluoride can be very harmful and as mentioned can cause neural damage and other problems.

Fluoride is added to the tap water in Mountain View and to Hetch Hetchy from which most of our tape water is obtained. The SCV Water District is also planning to add fluoride. The problem is that the chemical does not keep water safe, is not good for everyone and is harmful - even to teeth - when too much is consumed. Forty percent of children now have teeth damaged by too much fluoride (from various sources). Dumping even a measured amount of a chemical in the water does not control the dose received by individuals. You may need to shower or bathe using tap water, but you surely should consider not using it to cook or drink.

Putting fluoride in water is the most absurd unscientific, un-healthy thing
I can imagine.

Fluoride is a drug, and it is prescribed in non-specific amounts in drinking
water and on the skin to people whether they need it or want it or
whatever.

The research I have read is that it is good for the teeth, but so is calcium,
but no responsible medical practitioner would give unspecified treatments
to everyone for their whole lives.

OK ... but lets say fluoride is good for our teeth ... still what is the sense of
putting it our tap water, which few of us even drink anymore.

They used to put mineral flouride in the water is what I understand. Now
industrial waste is used which is not natural mineral flouride like you might
get from a spring, but fluoride that could have impurities in it. Is it checked
or guaranteed? Do you trust the people who do this after reading about
what happened with lead in Flint, MI and other communities scattered
through the country.

What is the cost budgeted for fluoride in our water and how and where is
it done. I'd like to leave fluoride treatment up to the individual. Maybe
bottled water companies could provide bottled water with fluoride added
in a known concentration.

Why does it make sense to put fluoride in the water when probably over
99% of all water used in CA is not even drunk by people?
