Daniel, good story. There are also alternates to the first appointments. Of particular interest to me is Superintendent Barry Groves of the high school district, who is the alternate schools representative. When I first talked to Groves about five years ago concerning the tax diversion 'problems' of redevelopment districts, his last departing question to me was 'when will we start to get Castro Strret taxes'? I guess we'll start to see that answer quickly!
Although closing Castro Street redevelopment did not have many 'vocal' supporters at that time, it was eventually closed by the actions of our local Legislative representatives Fong, Alquist, and Simitian supporting Gov. Brown.
Castro redevelopment only diverted 1/10 of the school and county taxes as the Shoreline District now does. Shoreline District will need "special legislation" to close it (along with the remaining half dozen or so special RDAs in the state). I hope more citizens will join me in being 'vocal' about sunsetting the Shoreline redevelopment district!

I Respectfully disagree with closing the Shoreline District because it provides funds for a number of city projects that benefit the citizens more than it would the school district. For example: the water main replacement project that ran up Miramonte; Stevens Creek Trail expansion; flood protection for Shoreline; re-routing of the water main for CSMA & San Antonio Center; etc., etc. Any project that can be tied back to Shoreline is eligible to use these funds.

The schools need to reorganize and become effective and efficient rather than always requesting funds.

I look forward to reading more about the progress of this group and hope that The Voice will give its readers notice of when the meetings will occur so residents can hear what's going on.
