Fire causes $500K in damage to garage

Santa Clara County firefighters have extinguished a one-alarm fire that caused an estimated $500,000 in damage to the garage of a Los Altos home this morning, a fire official said.

The general contractor remodeling our house said most home fires start in the garage. For those of us with attached garages, this story is a good reminder to check that the door between the home and garage is fireproof. In our house it wasn't, but it wasn't very expensive to replace it.

A 500K garage? I thought this was a typo until I read the article.

Actually, it was a $700K six car garage. The fire just did 500K worth of damage.

Must be nice to have (had) a $700K 6 car garage, not the part about having a fire.

You can bet that wasn't near the day workers center.
