And just imagine how higher food and gas prices are affecting those who actually have to buy them without any assistance.

Driving non-profits out of business is part of Obama's grand plan. He doesn't believe in charities. Everything needs to be provided by Washington, so it's fair for everyone.

To the executives, lawyers, bankers, entrepreneurs, venture fund managers, and high tech workers in the area... It's time to "pony up" and give (or give more) to local charities like the Community Services Agency (CSA) that receives food from the Second Harvest Food Bank.

Don't forget many companies will have a program that will match you donations. And, if they don't have such a program ask that one be established or for a one time match even.

I used to both donate and volunteer at Second Harvest. But not any more when the Government gives out Food Stamps and taxes the crap out of me.

I just got off the phone. I call my Mom every Sunday and we have lively discussions about what is happening in the news. She lives in a retirement area in Central Florida on a fixed income. I told her about the food bank situation here in Mountain View and she was appalled. There are 3 major food banks in the area where she lives. She does not use them. But when the food banks run out of food, it is announced in the local news. Usually within 24 hours the food banks are restocked with donations from the locals. This is not at all a affluent area of Florida. So here we are in "The land of Mercedes, BMW, Lexus and million dollar homes." I just don't get it. Has all the "new money" in this area created a community of greedy and selfish human beings. I am just surviving myself (no high paying tech job in our household) but my hubby and I are loading up a box of food from our emergency supplies and it will be dropped off this week. I don't care if the people in need are illegals or not. I am not in favor of a "sanctuary city" but I do have a problem with people going hungry, especially children. Maybe this will inspire some of you to step up and help make a difference. Share what you can, show your humanity, next year it could be you in need.

There's a deeper meaning in the name change: the "Valley of Heart's Desire" became "Silicon Valley." This place lost its heart a long time ago.
