Mediation begins for Bullis, LASD

Original post made on Mar 7, 2012

Officials and lawyers representing Bullis Charter School and the Los Altos School District began talks Tuesday in an attempt to resolve "differences and the long-standing dispute over BCS Facilities allocation," without further legal action, according to school district officials.

I'm not sure they are going to accomplish very much when BCS is suing our District and is threatening even more lawsuits in the future and has basically promised to keep suing until our District is bankrupt.

You can't really talk about much in the context of litigation. Everything you say can and will be used against you, etc.

If you are new to this issue and want to read some background, please see:

JAMS -- "the largest private alternative dispute resolution provider in the world,"

So how much is all this going to cost?

ContextMan,

If you would actually like to help inform those who are new to this issue, you should remove rhetoric like "They chose to use their own children and those of the community's as martyrs for their angry cause." from your linked-to screed. And the multiple "of very notable means, financially"s are also a clue to anyone paying attention that your perspective is rather biased.

@gcoladon: The name of the site is BullisCharterSCAM--I'm not sure softening the tone and changing some of the wording will change people's impression of it :-).

You don't go to WalmartSucks.com (now in their 12th year!) to find out how great Walmart is, either, but it's clearly useful information for Walmart patrons.

I admit that it's rather awkward that the site brings up the Founder's financial status given our area but it really IS a material fact to the school's story. This is an entity that is fighting tooth and nail to take money AWAY from a public school district whereas the rest of us who have a little extra to give donate our money TO our school district.

Further, BCS supporters have also fought tooth and nail to stop a $193 parcel tax which would help our schools (they lost with a 2/3 majority). Again, the means of the founders and the typical BCS supporters (who are all AT LEAST well-to-do as they pay the $5000/child per year "tuition" to their school) is at issue since $193 per year is immaterial to them--so you need to look for motivations elsewhere.

Most BCS leadership and supporters (with some "notable" recent exceptions*) are also fighting against another school campus bond as well. Again, these are people who have income tax burdens of AT LEAST $100k (and in some cases 100s of times more [no exaggeration]) fighting a tax of $.5k at the most. Again, it speaks to motives.

YES, they are angry. Most BCS supporters readily admit that (they will go into a rant about it if you push them a little).

YES, they "chose" to start a Charter instead of a private school. Again, the MEANS of the individuals here is a material fact--money was no object.

YES, they chose not to send their kids to private schools as many like them at the time did. Again, with these "means" money was not the issue. Again, this speaks to motive.

YES, it's a "cause" and not a "school". Again, push on a BCS supporter and you'll see that there's an agenda (or three) behind the school that has nothing to do with educating kids.

So just read the details and you'll see... the site might be overly direct, but it does not exaggerate :-)...

Like many others in this community I am very tired of the posts by Context Man, which sound very similar to Joan J Strong and are in fact done by the same person. My strategy is to just ignore them. My real problem is not with context man -- I think he needs help -- but there is not anything I can do to stop him.

I do have a problem with context man's supporters -- you know who you are-- those of you who are completely happy to accept his slurs and lies as long as it supports your point of view. You even defend him when you feel he is being picked on. Encouraging him is not going to help solve the problem of finding space for BCS and keeping your child's school open.

Context Man/Joan's only connection to LASD schools and BCS is as a taxpayer - He doesn't have children. He is has chosen to make this his cause. Judging by the volume of his output, he seems to spend a great deal of time on it.

Please think about how scared you would be in someone was ranting about your child's school. Pretending that you don't know who he is doesn't help him, or the LASD cause. Treating him with respect when he posts under his actual name on the LASDVoices facebook site shows a lack of integrity on your part. Please help Joan/Context Man by ignoring his post here and elsewhere.

We can all do better and work together to find a compromise but only if we approach this problem with honesty.

Please ignore @Wecandobetter and his assorted aliases. This is a intern paid by Larson PR to disrupt online discussions about BCS.

This post and the next 20 will be deemed, "that is David Cortright". It's just forum spam (and, of course, just a lie). This is all he's got: he's not trained well enough to actually answer any of my well-reasoned arguments, so he just posts the same text over and over again...

@Context Man -
I am parent of two children who attend BCS. I am not a PR person -- but i will take that as a complement -in my real life I am a techie who struggles with writing. I am very concerned that we are attacking each other with negative talking points. I am concerned that you have a very unhealthy obsession with by child's school. Please seek treatment. I believe that you have written about your therapist on your website, please seek help soon.

@WeCanDoBetter = Larson PR.

Of course you can use your real name since, unlike myself, you don't have to worry about BCS hitting you with lawsuits and other nastiness if they find out your real name.

I know you won't since part of your job description is to remain anonymous and make up some sort of convincing character and call everybody who posts anything non-positive about BCS, "David Cortright", but just for the gallery to observe this poster being caught in a lie...

I doubt that Larsen PR -- who ever that is -- would pay someone to post comments this late at night. Really very silly. Is anything I have said untrue? Don't you spend every hour of the day thinking about BCS? Why? Please share with us how you have been personally effected by Bullis Charter School. Maybe if you could explain we wouldn't be so freaked out by you and your negative energy. You seem like you have quite a bit to say but you have already said it over and over again. As I posted above -- I really can't do much about you.-- except as you to stop. My real problem is with those who support you.

I used to think that you were a loan wolf, but after reading the LASDVoices facebook site, I find that there are many people from the LASD community who think that you are some sort of expert. That is what I find the most frightening of all. Nobody should be supporting your obsession. I think that most people on there know who you are and what your aliases are - so I find it bewildering that they support you.

Folks, this guy is a spammer (and yes, I know, I've been rickrolled by it here too now).

You see, since he purports to be absolutely certain that I (and everybody else who posts negative things about BCS) is David Cortright, he must have really great proof, right?

If he did, he'd bring that proof to the FB group and they would use that evidence to kick David out of the group, which is what this spammer keeps saying he wants. (Btw the FB group is moderated and he can't spam that group like he does this one).

Either way, he's lying. He's just a spammer.

I'm not DavidC and I won't respond to that claim by any alias here. Please, everybody, commit to doing the same. Just ignore this spammer.

My point is that we can do better. We can ignore David Cortright, Context Man, Joan J Strong, Harry Barton, and anyone else who supports web sites created by David Cortright. It doesn't matter if they are by the same person or not. ( Although we all can certainly deduce that they in fact are.) What matters is that we all should care what happens to our community. Those of us who are parents care deeply about our child's school. We shouldn't stick our heads in the sand and pretend that the evil body of work by a certain resident of Old Los Altos does not exist. Again I ask, how would you feel if someone was posting obsessive rants about your child's school? Would you feel worse if that person had no direct ties the school or schools in general?

(I've reported this guy to the moderators. Let's hope that they can step in and save this particular forum from spammers. Otherwise mv-voice will in fact cease to be a place where discussions can happen--which is obviously his goal).

MV Native is a registered user.

It's very unlikely that We Can Do Better was a spammer. I think he was making a valid point. I think that MV- Voice would be a better place with out ContextMan.
