Council interested in property swap for office project

Original post made on Mar 6, 2012

Last week the City Council gave city staff the green light to begin negotiating a city property swap that will allow a developer to build yet another office building downtown, this time at the corner of Dana and Bryant streets where Dunn Automotive now sits.

No. You are moving the sparse downtown parking and access away from downtown.

Looking at picture, looks like we are going to get a nice new building, with a bigger parking lot. Good use of land swaps.

Another small business bites the dust thanks to our city government. All we are left with are Office Buildings and Restaurants.

Dunn's has been there for at least 50 years.

Dunn's is pretty awful anyway. My car was there overnight once and came out so very dirty. They seem to keep a messy shop over there.

This swap sounds like a great opportunity for the city and I hope we give it all serious consideration. Attracting a new office building will help support current small businesses downtown with new customers, and even could help support our downtown grocer, Ava's.

And re: MV's comment on 'sparse' parking -- the parking structure at California & Bryant Street is only a block away, and has plenty of excess space. Almost no one uses the top level right now - the City's downtown parking study confirmed this last year. You can even see it for yourself by going to the top level and noticing that there are no oil spots on those spaces, vs. plenty of oil spots on the lower levels!

Are you saying the council hasn't outlawed oil stains yet?

That little strip (marked Parcel A) was a nice cut through from the parking to downtown. They should require a walkway for foot traffic.

Dunn is not closing due to the city, sounds like the owner of the property wants to build an office building.

Parking lot is only 2 blocks from Castro St, it is not a bad little walk, you get to past by old homes, a pub, some little shops to get to Castro, the other way down Dana St again you get to walk by some nice little stores. Enjoy the walk, have fun.

I hope a plaza or some kinda of passageway will get built to that parking lot.

I think it would be a positive improvement over a dusty, dirty, old body shop that is old news anyhow.
