I often forget the inherent danger in diving large aluminum and steel cages around each other at high speeds. My condolences to the next of kins.

No one should ever forget each and every danger when operating a motor vehicle but unfortunately accidents still happen. The situation sounds chaotic, as crashes are, but it seems the driver may have been in shock after the initial crash which led her to continue driving and broadsiding that second vehicle. Quick reflexes and reaction times are skills that every driver should have. They not only help avoid accidents but help drivers react quickly in the event of an accident. At 85, I am sad to say this poor lady may not have had those all of those skills intact.

That stretch of road needs speed ENFORCEMENT by the L.A. police.
Cars ALWAYS seem in excess of the posted 35 mph limit and when you add the egos of people trying to all get in front of the other, including freeway traffic merges,....well, as sad as this story is, it was only a matter of time before it happened to someone, and it will only be a matter of time until the next tragedy unless serious police enforcement is on tap. Drivers need to slow down and the police need to "help motivate' them to do so. Lets make this stretch of road one of those "Don't dare to speed" areas because of the police presence. Keep in mind that many on that stretch are not even local, just "Me first" drivers wanting to drive as fast as they can.

Yes, speed limits need enforcing but so do all the other traffic laws. I have seen dangerous driving by slow drivers too: failure to use blinkers and weaving in and out of lanes, applying the brake all of a sudden to look at a sign, turning the car widely to the right to make a simple left turn and almost crashing into cars going straight in the right lane. Some drivers drift around like they are navigating the surface of Neptune with no other souls around them! I have been behind these people and back way off because I cannot predict what they will do next. Drivers have to be aware of other drivers and the traffic patterns around them, as well as following all the rules. If you know your traffic rules well, then you can develop good instincts as a driver. In my eyes, many drivers should go back to driver's ed
