Oh C'mon, its a shade canopy, not a 12 story building or a mini-mall. It doesn't need to be weight bearing. Adjust the design to accommodate the tree. There. I just saved the district tree removal $. Sheesh!

In the event a child climbs the structure, it does need to be weight bearing. The design needs to meet the state standards and the long term site plan for the school.

OK then, design it as such with space for the tree. This is really not a problem....unless you're a bureaucrat apparently.

then again, perhaps this "problem" was created to offer the kids a chance to learn/be involved. If so, it shouldn't be in the paper as a real issue. If it truely IS a problem, maybe an actual architectual design team could come uop with a solution to this problem that is just tooooo tough for anyone else to figure out(sic). I say again...SHEESH!

Don't they have to get permission from the city to remove the tree if it's larger than a certain size?

The school wants to *remove* a tree to make shade?
What's the next project? Installing lighting under the canopy?

The only thing more silly than this story, is all the comments that you guys are making.
I am laughing like crazy...hope it is WITH you and not AT you.

The "problem" appears to be with some silly adults/bureaucrats!! Keep the tree; build around it. What's so hard about that?!!

C'mon folks...it's really more of an ugly shrub than a tree. Let's not get too excited.
