Isn't it time to discuss regular, designated police patrols on the trail and its side areas, including after dark?
If its so illegal to be on the trail after dark, why to I see a progression of homeless people entering the trail heads after dark?
Why do the local gang punks around Whisman do their tagging and vandalism after dark? Because there is very minimal risk of getting caught.
The open toilet areas filled w/ used tp and human waste, the flashers in the bushes and now the molesters/rapists have it nice and cushy down there as long as the police don't try and clean it up.

How difficult would it be to put a cop or 2 on a bike and have them, oh I dunno, actually stop a molestation, rather than investigating it after the fact. I think our cops are great, but if we don't choose to put them on the trail, the trail will never be as safe as it could be.
A secluded area with no visible police presence will always attract a bad element. We need police presence on the trail.

suspicious behavior on Stevens Creek Trail ? Every day is suspicious people on Trail . Depende of your experince what mean "suspicious" ,when I running for this area very hour is different people , sometime crossing only, sometime visit friends in this area , women , men , old mens ,kids , cyclists , teenagers , blondes , africans , Hispanics, Asian ,Indian ,European ,dogs , park /trail workers ,students....Hundred people crossing (almost thousands )for Stevens Creek area every day ...worse time in the day is a dusk...because all people is i a hurry to go home but this is a perfect chance for criminals ...and in the end of the day , many areas in Mountain View is dangerous in the dark ...

You're joking, right? This town invites illegal activity in the form of a Day Worker Center. It selectively enforces laws when it comes to the massive illegal population, and you ask this?

It all comes full circle in this town. You get what you invite.

I don't ride the trails often but when I do I notice a few drunks along the way, just drinking and being stupid. I also see garbage scattered around. I see no reason there can't be some kind of bicycle patrol at random times to keep the riff raff off guard. This would emply people while also percerving the trails.

You seem to think that immigrants are the problem - not anyone else...You are warped and racist and rude - I would be happy to invite you to leave this town that is full of diversity - I am betting you are not native american - the only group that is not an immigrant to this country! This town of ours is wonderful, not perfect, but made up of a community that welcomes all - it is the Day Worker Center that makes this a city I am proud to live in. It is people like you who drag this community down. Try your hardest to have an open mind and heart - don't lump any nationality or group, espcially those struggling to be legit - like those involved at the Day Worker Center, into the 'problem'. Trying to help this situation which is what the Day Worker Center does is productive. Get involved, meet some of these people, hear their stories - in other words, get educated on all sides of an issue before you place blame.

While supervising the parking lot at Landels School, near the trail, I have on occassion seen our motocycle policemen ride on to the trail from the school... However, they cannot be on the trail for 24 hours... If you use the trail, use the "buddy system", don't go alone...

That poor young lady. I am glad she is okay and reported the crime. I was attacked in 1982 when I was 16 and never told since I was taking an illegal shortcut on my way to school.

The Steven's Creek Trail is a wonderful trail for commuting and getting to the Shoreline Ampitheater. What a shame to make commuters and event goers into lawbreakers by forbidding use of the trail at night.

Sounds like "Ned" is a transplant to MV....google makes this a city your proud to live in !! That is the biggest joke !! Why! Cause you get free meals? Onsite oil changes? Cheap childcare? Or those cute little rainbow bikes?? MV was built on the backs of latin american people. Like my great great grandparents. Pull your head out of your a*s !! Google is ruining this town. Who cares that you donate computers or paint a school building !! This was a great town before you "non-natives" arrived !! And will be when you leave...just SGI and all those others companys that lived beyond their means !!! Enjoy it while its lasts !!

Motorcycles are terrible to patrol the trail. Yes, I've seen them, as well on rare occasion, the most memorable was this encounter:
I rolled up on my bike and surprised a few of the local creek inhabitants enjoying their morning wine. They were startled when they saw me, but quickly resumed their ritual as I stopped to sit on a bench, still w/in view. Then we all heard the rumble of the motorcycle.
The group casually sunk back behind some bushes, the cop rolled through
and the 3 men came back from behind the bushes and resumed their morning libations. I was mad at myself for not pointing them out, but it was over and done before that came to mind. Had the cop been on a bike or on foot, the winos would have been surprised by the cop, and cited. Word would get out that MV is serious about keeping the creek clean and safe and the "Safe harbor" the creek now provides will be gone.
The police NEED to get OUT/OFF of their motor vehicles, and see the trail as we all do, on foot or bike, so they can actually make a difference. Please.
