This is not happening because people are leaving doors or windows unlocked, the burglars are breaking windows and doors. These are violent criminals and the police department needs to do its job and take these crimes seriously. Blaming the victim is extremely tiresome, in my opinion.

True - but police also need the help from all of us to call in when there is someone suspicious or unknown near our neighbors houses, condos, apartments, etc. I also think we need to support our police and tell our council that more police are needed on the beat.

I wish that someone would try to break in while I'm at home, they would have a hard time getting out. Be safe ppl keep something near you or somewhere around your house in case one of these a**hol*s tries to break in. It's clear mountain view is going in the wrong direction. Protect yourselves, cops seem to to be busy hitting their quota giving tickets and stuff.

When more law abiding residents start defending their homes with shotguns, the criminals will eventually go away, either by their own volition or dead, either way problem solved!!

Mtn View must have generated an 'easy crime' reputation. When I was a kid, we all knew where not to go, where the cops tolerated no 'stuff'. We avoided Sunnyvale, and had modest respect for MVPD. The criminal element will be aware of the police preoccupation with generating revenue, and must be emboldened watching them waste their crimefighting resources writing seatbelt tickets.

The increasing number of crimes shows that our police are not doing their work while they keep making more money every year. Shame on the city and the police department for not being pro active. The police keep asking for more resources and more money for doing less work. I am disappointed. Criminals are getting more violent and they will break in whether the doors and windows are locked and don't care if someone is inside. its just a bad economy and criminals are getting bolder. Next we will see homicides. The police ought to do a better job instead of sitting at Starbucks and chatting with the young women out there.

No need for guns. I have two big cans of wasp spray and a very long sharp knife. It'll be a slow and ugly death for anyone that breaks in on me.
