I'm a computer programmer, and I've talked to enough of my peers about technology in the classroom to speak on their behalf.

We are no fans of more technology in the classroom. The only reason you need technology in the classroom is to teach technology, like computer programming, spreadsheets, how to build a website, and the like. Computers won't make you a better reader or better at math or chemistry or physics.

School districts should stop wasting money on technology and instead spend money on hiring better teachers.

I beleive the purpose of the use of technology in the classroom is to use a tool that interests children to get them to learn by having fun and relating to them on their level. This is the age of facebook, twitter the iPad smartphones, and wifi. Why not use these different sources of new technology to teach children how to do math, chemistry and all of the other subjects they are required too learn. Learning about technology does not replace the requirements that each student must meet but it can enhance the way the lesson is presented.

Computer programmers, such as "Jeff" need to divert their overpaid salaries into the schools. Mountain View and Los Altos don't need to hire better teachers, in fact, they need to pay their teachers more! My children's teachrs have done a wonderful job! My children are at Stanford, Univ. of Michigan, and Julliard now!
