I just cant wait to see if @Jesse posts the Day Worker question! You know, the one where he asks, as if he really does want to know, if this took place near the Day Worker Center. It's phrased so casually that you might not even notice it in amongst the comments. Something like, "Isn't that near the Day Worker Center?" He posts that question to many, many crimes stories.
I can only imagine that he wants us all to associate Crime with Day Worker Center.
Let's wait and see if he posts it here!
BTW, it's great that they had their alarm set.

Liz Wylie really said it all with two words: "Crime thwarted!"
And it does not have to be an expensive system, to achieve the same result. If you don't have one, you may want to look into it, for as this story tells so clearly, some criminals either don't know or care if someone is at home when they intend to invade your home.
But having a system or device that draws attention to the intrusion in-progress *before* they are able to enter your home is paramount to nipping crimes like this in the bud. I help people design systems like this every day, and they feel much safer for it. Find someone local to you to do the same, and you will too.
