I keep hearing about the Center For Public Environmental Oversight but where is it located and who funds this Center?

Seems like they are doing good work.

From what I understand, Siegel is a one-man show at CPO and basically a full-time liberal activist funded by, among others, you, the taxpayer in the form of grants etc. The ultimate self-licking ice cream.

I think if you were familiar with Lenny Siegel and the hard work he has done for many, many years to make our neighborhoods a better and safer place for all,you would find your comments ill-informed. Whatever silly labels you care to use won't take away his self-less dedication to make your neighborhood and mine a healthier one.

We owe so much to Lenny - he is tireless in helping with the TCE contamination at the MEW site - also with the Navy and Nasa pollution at Moffett - but he also is a national advocate for clean water and for helping communities. If you do not know who Lenny is, just google him and see how instrumental he has been for many years in fighting good causes for all of us and for our children and the future.

Do they hand out awards for bureaucratic lifetime achievement? When was the last time Mr. Siegel held a real (not taxpayer or so-called nonprofit funded) job? As for working 'selflessly', not when he's getting paid for it.

Lenny has been doing a great deal over the years to help ensure health and safety in the Mountain View area, and he is very deserving of our appreciation and of the EPA recognition. Most of us are happy to find work that pays us the most with little or no consideration for social benefits it provides. Lenny has taken a higher path, and we're all better off for his sacrifice. Others in Mountain View are following similar paths to Lenny's, but it is rare that they receive proper recognition. It's nice to see a different case here, unusual as it is.

While I respect your right to an opinion, I would encourage you to familiarize yourselves with the full extent of Lenny's work before passing judgment. He continues to work harder than most people every day, and I can assure you that much of his work goes unpaid. It is unlikely that his commitment to the neighborhood and environment are responsible for the current state of the economy, but if his sort of work gives you true anxiety, one hopes that you will make your concerns known in a more appropriate venue.

Lenny Siegel has done great work on environmental issues in the past, but as a city council candidate he has one issue: "Build, Build, Build."

It needs to be repeated: We could ruin the city trying to remedy the "jobs/housing imbalance". At least 30,000 new jobs in MV are projected in the next 15 years.

For now, Siegel is only advocating 5,000 new housing units at North Bayshore (equivalent to 25 four-story complexes the size of the Madera development), plus a few hundred more units at San Antonio. This would be sufficient to significantly worsen the traffic situation, but would have little or no effect on holding down rental or purchase prices for housing. It would be a bonus for developers, but a net negative on MV's quality of life.

Siegel is going down the wrong road. I'm disappointed, and I won't be voting for him.
