So no money to take care of the elderly yet President Obama is requesting an additional $33 billion to fund his request for an additional 30,000 troops for Afghanistan.

The city should stop using tax payers money on illegals and take care of the legal senior citizens first. It is possible that some of these senior citizens are parents of recently naturalized citizens or green card holders and they bring in their parents.

Kathy, good point! I my opinion, the controllers (not leaders) of our country/state have lost their moral compass. Cutting Medi-Cal to seniors or anyone dependent upon it is despicable. Again, and again we hear from our controllers that tough choices have to be made to address the budget deficit. The poor and the elderly are easy and defenseless targets. How is it that the wealthy, the politically connected, and those legal entities called corporations are not having to "suffer" these tough choices. What has happened to our society that we can allow such brutal and vampirish practices? DESPICABLE!

Let's spend a few billion dollars on a High Speed Rail system that no one will ride. Let's build a great big sports stadium. Let's save a giant derelict hangar.

It's the regulations for the operation of the services that needs to be changed. Some of these centers do truly offer imperative services for the seniors, but a lot of the other centers are just really in it for the money.

Don't even get me started on High speed Rail....that project should be de-railed and the funds re-directed to critical services that are being cut due to budget constraints. Maybe our elected officials would give up some of their perks, to help their constituents in need.....don't hold your breath.
see this on Congressional Gym....true cost of this perk is hidden from the public.

Kathy, thanks again for your comment. Apparently, some people have difficulty staying on message, derailing intelligent discussion to peripheral issues (although important in another context).
* Comment on peripheral issue [High Speed Rail]: Agreed! In my opinion, it seems our society continually prioritizes its projects in favor of the wealthy, the politically connected, and those legal entities called corporations. Supposing High Speed Rail becomes an actuality, who will be able to afford it? Ever flown on the Concord or Super Sonic Transport jet; guess who can afford it?
* Comment: Derail the High Speed Rail project...at least until a lot more people in this society can use it.
