Katrina Ohde, you can use your car as a 3,000 lb. weapon, FLEE THE SCENE of the killing, return to the scene after thinking about it for a while, take responsibility and finally PLEAD GUILTY, AND YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A JAIL SENTENCE FOR 2ND DEGREE VEHICULAR HOMICIDE *and* LEAVING THE SCENE OF AN ACCIDENT THAT YOU CAUSED AND THAT RESULTED IN THE DEATH OF A MAN ... TO THE D.A. OHDE = WAY TO KEEP OUR MOUNTAIN VIEW STREETS SAFE! So, not a bad price to pay for KILLING SOMEONE with your car = $7,500 payoff to the DEAD victim's family, insignificant amount of fees, 2 years probation, 200 hrs. of community service - AND SHE ONLY LOSES HER DRIVER'S LICENSE FOR ONE (1) YEAR!!!! SO, this incompetent driver will be returning to our streets in Mountain View in a year! GREAT! The victim's family got some money -- BUT DOES ANYONE REMEMBER THAT A MAN DIED??? WHERE IS HIS JUSTICE???

Unbelievable, people have gotten sentenced to jail for much less criminal actions. She hit & ran and killed a man and that is the punishment she is receiving because she turned herself in and was cooperative. What a bunch of BS, it's no wonder criminals have no regard for the law let alone other human beings. What an example you have set.

I completely agree with you, Mark. This is obscene. The DA's office is in need of some serious adult supervision, and has been for some time. Katrina Ohde should be ashamed of herself and I question why she is still employed.

Why did the police even bother arresting Son? They could have used the mountain of resources they spent on this actually doing something productive.

OH -- and I'm just SO happy for the D.A. that she didn't have to do her job AND PROSECUTE A CRIMINAL (which certainly saved her and her staff lots of time and effort, so good for them!!! -- NOT!), and instead, our District Attorney (charged with PROTECTING THE PUBLIC, which - DUH! - is NOT the same as permitting a killer to walk free!) gave Son a FREE GET OUT OF JAIL CARD for simply pleading guilty??? There is no justice in an accident. Son was guilty of felony hit 'n run, she went into shock and drove home. She didn't 'lawyer up' and deny. There was no guarantee she would avoid jail.

I've been intentionally assaulted by a car full of guys that hit me, drove away, hanging out the window and laughing. The CHP wouldn't even take my report. These are the people that D.A.s and law enforcement should go after to keep our streets safe, not a person who takes responsibility, if perhaps belatedly.

One last thought --- was Son TEXTING OR TALKING ON HER CELLPHONE when she killed the man? Did ANYONE bother to check her cellphone records to see if her phone had indeed been in-use when she killed the man? OH WAIT --- THAT MIGHT HAVE INVOLVED THE D.A.'s OFFICE ACTUALLY DOING THEIR JOBS AND INVESTIGATING THE DEATH OF THIS MAN --- BUT OH WAIT, THAT WOULD HAVE INVOLVED THEM ACTUALLY W-O-R-K-I-N-G INSTEAD OF ACCEPTING A PLEA DEAL AND SWEEPING UNDER THE CARPET THE HIT-AND-RUN DEATH OF A MAN ... OK DA Katrina Ohde has set the rules. Here's the steps to take in case you hit someone with your car in Mnt View:
1) FLEE THE SCENE! DRIVE AWAY FAST!!! There's a chance nobody saw you or got your license plate.
2) IF and ONLY IF you are identified is it the time to turn yourself in.
3) After turning yourself in, pretend its what you would have done all along, but say you were in shock.

Remember, the DA wants to encourage people to flee the scene of vehicular manslaughter. Only accept blame if they ID you or your car, and then accept blame. You'll walk out of the door with a very minor slap on the wrist.

With Katrina at the wwheel we are not legally protected in the system. This is how the seeds of vigilantes get planted when the people sworn to do the job fail. DISGUSTING!

What's not listed on this article (by fault of bad journalism) are all the circumstance that is involved in this accident. Did the pedestrian walk in front of a moving vehicle? Was the lighting in the intersection poor? Was the road slippery?

You can't make a judgement by hearing the simple explanation.

HOWEVER, 3 - 5 years in a California State Prison for Women would have been minimally acceptable when it comes to justice being served ... again, what if it was YOUR father who she ran down and killed??? IF she had remained at the scene of the "accident", might she have given some type of aid to the dead man that COULD HAVE SAVED HIS LIFE? We'll never know, will we? Not much to add, other than I am very sad to see that as a frequent pedestrian and bicyclist that I am not as valued by the DA as a hit and run driver and my worth to the DA probably goes down as I get older ($7500 to the 80 yo victim's family? Really?). I try to be as careful as possible when driving my car and motorcycle and would never dream of leaving an injured person laying on the deck and trying to avoid taking responsibility for my actions. Keibun Son should have received a much more severe sentence including some serious jail time and loss of driving privilages, repentent or not. Use a gun to kill intentionally or not and get 20 years to life, use a car and get less than a slap on the wrist. Go figure. I hope the family of Mr. Manuel Enos uses the $7500 to help fund the election of whoever runs against the DA in the next election.

An "accident" is something that cannot be avoided ... "proving one's inability to drive safely, showing irresponsible and heartless behavior AFTER running someone over with your car, and THEN NOT STOPPING TO HELP THE VICTIM" is NOT an "accident" -- that's an "ON PURPOSE" when you KNOW you have no business driving a car and just decide "Screw everyone else! Let THEM watch out for ME and deal with MY dangerous driving habits!" ... nice attitude, really nice attitude ...

once again, the system is corrupt and imperfect. Being a woman and an Asian, she is getting away with it. A jewish woman or a white woman probably would go free as well.
I understand that she didn't do this purposely. But if the culprit had been a black woman or a black man or a latino man or an Asian Indian man, this punishment would be definitely far severe.

You raise a good point, here. If the law fails us all so miserably, one can easily envision some folk adopting a vigilante position when it comes to dealing with people such as Keibun Son, and her ilk.

wowww I'm sure one's life is worth MUCH more than $7,500. This is UNBELIEVABLE.
