Fireworks Show - for residents or not?

Original post made by Resident, Cuernavaca, on Jul 5, 2011

We tried to see the holiday fireworks over Shoreline but couldn't find parking so we missed the show. Google and other businesses around there had guards at every empty parking lot. I saw nice family groups hiking up long, dark streets with little kids. What is the danger of letting people park in those empty lots for an hour to see the show? Not a nice way to celebrate America by forcing little kids to stand in the road and yelling "keep out, private property" at them.

Hooligans park in these private lots at night, drink lots of alcohol, smoke dope, get into fights, and leave lots of broken glass and human waste scattered around afterwards. Much safer to close the private lots than try to police them. Did you try to park in the Shoreline lot?

I agree with "Resident". Last year the traffic was a nightmare in AND out of the "public" lots. Plus they charged a ton of money, the walk was incredibly long (with kids, over unpaved terrain, late at night). It was nearly ONE HOUR til we emerged around the Shoreline movie theater after the show.
Google can WELL afford to police their own lots for 3 hours or so ONCE a year after getting millions of dollars in tax breaks from the state, free road maintainence and MANY MANY perks from the city of MV> Anyone w/a MV driver's license should be able to get in those lots, perhaps for $10 which would keep out the so-called "hooligans". BTW what is to stop those partiers from doing their damage in the Shoreline owned dirt lots? NOTHING! THere was noone "patrolling" the parking areas, just taking your money and causing huge backups as there were literally 2 access points onto Shoreline Blvd. after the show for thousands of cars. It was such a horrible experience we did not go back this year.

Next time pay for the show and you'll get to see the fireworks no problem. Why should people make their properties available for freeloaders?
