Council lukewarm to major bus upgrade on El Camino Real

City Council members were hesitant to embrace a VTA proposal Tuesday that would bring dedicated bus lanes to El Camino Real for a system similar to light rail.

It already is quite difficult for pedestrians and bicycles to cross El Camino with lights that are quite short (even with the walk signal pushed). How will giving buses the ability to overrider the signal affect pedestrian crossings? Especially if these buses, like the current 522 and 22 buses drivers among others, are not unknown now for running through red lights (or worse speeding up when it is yellow and then running the red light after it turned).
