I believe there are 3 mexican gangs in MV. Nortenos, Surenos, and some new group called Brown Priders.

Let's apply the Patriot Act to the gang problem here. No-knock warrantless searches, warrantless phone taps, enhanced interrogation techniques, no Habeas Corpus, etc. That would certainly put a dent in their action.

Dragging the MVPD away from other, more important duties. Scores of evil seat belt violators got away unpunished.

Gangs in Mountain View?

The victim should be arrested.

Mountain View is still one fo the safest places to live. I guess that is as long as you don't have rivals. I still say let they 'duke it out' among themselves. As long as they do it in their own neighborhoods. Lastly how much you want to bet these thugs are here legally?

I certainly wouldn't take that bet. No way.

And that is why I am applying for a concealed weapon permit. I agree with Observer, arrest the victim for admitting he is in a gang.

Hopefully when I walk downtown to eat dinner I won't have to shoot any gang members...

The parents of these idiots must be REAL proud of what they created through their own stupidity and failure to raise their sons to be real men. I guess pursuing an education and taking responsibility for being good citizens is simply something beyond the comprehension and capability of these losers.

To all YOU IDOTS talking, and not knowing the situation. The VICTIM is my son, and he is NOT in a gang, He is legal and was walking down the street minding his own business and was a VICTIM of a crime like any one YOU IDOTS could be...

ANY COMMENTS!!!!!!!!!!!

Con permiso, SeƱora,
"However, the victim admitted to being affiliated with a rival gang."
I feel sad for all involved, including you. But please think what else your child will confess to the police before he confides in you. Did you volunteer to help in his kindergarten classroom? Did you bring him up to participate in the prosperous society that drew you here, or to prey upon it? Let us work together to build a healthy community.

Maybe the police meant that the attacker was the victim--a victim of poverty and racism for which this town is known. Our community is so quick to blame the victim.

to Liberal, thank you...

Not everything you read is true. HE never admitted or said he was in gang.... YOu people jump to conclusions. He is a good kid, and WAS just walking down the street minding his own business. He was a VICTIM, no because he is poor, white, mexican, or what ever.

So you are saying the MVPD lied about it, Jane? Why do you suppose they would do that?

The boy may have admitted he was in a gang, but we really don't know the extent of his involvement. Lets be fair to the victim here, who is still just a child and may be have been acting the part to be cool and fit in.

I live by the Safeway and noticed an increase in groups of young Hispanic punks hanging out in the parking lot and around the general area in recent months. The other day one of these kids had red pants, red sneakers, and a red hat on. Another group, all dressed in the same attire, was openly exchanging something to passers by in the parking lot. Although my girlfriend could probably take most of them on in a fight, knives and guns are no joke. Its so obvious what they are up to, makes you want to take justice into your own hands to cleanse our community of this element.

I pass by the area that the boy was attacked twice a day and have never felt unsafe, but word from the police is that break-ins and theft are on the rise in the area. I would hate to see this ultra safe neighborhood turn to crap, I really hope the police step up efforts.

A seventeen year-old is not a "child." There are plenty of 17 year-old murderers around. The city should adapt and enforce a zero-tolerance policy as regards gang activity. The Patriot Act is the perfect instrument with which to halt such activity.

It is a mothers job to protect her children and I respect that. You are suggesting your son was just walking down the street when out of nowhere, and for no reason when a stranger jumped at him and shouted his gangs name before punching him then stabbing him. Ever heard that when something doesn't sound right...it isn't right. What you suggest doesn't sound right. And that is my personal opinion. But with that said I can also say I'm happy for you he didn't die on the streets like so many do.

Nice try, "jane". However, no one here is in any way blaming the victim. We are blaming the attacker, a 5-foot-8-inch Hispanic man.

Many cities have learned from the cleanup effort in Times Square in the early 1990's that changing the physical environment can affect how people behave.

What message is Mtn View sending about Moffett Blvd in allowing the hulk of the burned-out former A&W building and the abandoned Cottage to still stand as-is on the "wrong side of the tracks" from downtown?

The actions the city takes NOW on this area physically can directly affect whether it becomes "better" or "worse".
