Or, are the neighbors not friendly with her.

or did she take inventory of what she could do without in life and had an "Insurance garage sale" to get a chunk of cash.
Its easy to make up as wild a story as you can dream up when you know hardly any facts!

Jeez people. Someone gets robbed while away and you act like it is not possible or that she even PLANNED it. About 2 years ago my next door neighbor, here in Mountain View, got similarly cleaned out MID-DAY ON A WEEKDAY. We were at work, as was pretty much everyone else on the street. One older lady saw a van in the driveway (but not the stuff being loaded) and figured that in the middle of the day that the house was having some sort of repair person over. Obviously thieves knew which house they were going to hit and when it was likely empty.

So this does not take insurance fraud by the victim. It just takes a determined thief and an opportunity. And in a community like Mountain View, there are lots of unwatched empty houses.

well...We are no longer a community who cared about each other. We don't know our neighbors and we don't talk to one another. Eveyrone is a stranger. This all may be due to racial diversity. Everyone keeps to himself/herself. Families treat single men like outcasts or child molesters or a weirdo..etc...You know the drift. We ceased to be a community long ago. For the most part, MV is a safe community, at the least, many sections of it...I think..Where there are too many crimes, people already learnt to be careful.

How sad that someone in their mid-50s would be so dumb as to leave for a weekend (or an hour) without locking the home up, including sliding doors and all windows. Egads, the Darwin Awards should include this lady.

Chances are that the heist was done by someone that knew the situation.. Too much "chance" to be random.

Obviously someone knew that this woman would be gone over the weekend.
Burglars don't just randomly steal that much stuff without knowing that the person(s) would not be there to interrupt.

The families living on Loreto Street are among the best connected of any street in Mountain View, so forget the "we don't care about our neighbors" theory. Folks on that block run (or used to) their own 4th of July parade and many of the residents have been there longer than the 20+ years I've lived a few blocks away. It's the kind of block that makes you think you're in a village, not a city.

Professional burglars are like other professionals in that the ones who are still in business are pretty darn good at what they do. What I learned from being burglarized many years ago is that if YOU can get into your house without a key, so can a professional burglar. If you leave a key outside in case you get locked out, the pro burglar can probably find it. And if the key is in a locked container, the pro can and will jimmy it open.

And yet... they seek the softest targets. So, like Liz Wylie said, lock up before you leave.

There ARE no "nice neighborhoods". Burglars are incredibly mobile, and as Liz Wylie said, always looking for opportunities for where someone leaves their house easily accessible. And those that do not heed these simple, proven truths, are doomed to...well, lose all their stuff, to put it succinctly. And they deserve it, for being so unrealistic about the reality they live in. Or, as my cute little doppleganger put it: They are being "Brilliant."

If I was worried about people using my name, I wouldn't name call and snivel with some false sense of ownership of it, I'd REGISTER it. The question is are you brave enough to come out of anonymity and continue to post as you do.

To all the catty bored people making lame jugdmental comments about this woman neighbors:

I am one of those neighbors. I live three doors down. There are several reasons why this event went unnoticed... But mainly am unsure why all your feeble intellects can't figure out that there might be circumstances beyond your immediate understanding that would keep you from having the full picture... Or are you so quick to judge other UNLESS you have all the facts?

For one, this house has had individuals renting room out and at times there are others coming and going. Secondly, this street is so full of landscapers and construction crew vehicles every weekend, it is literally impossible at times to drive down the street. It is very plausible that a moving van, or construction crew truck, or any other large vehicle was in front of this woman's house for several days and honestly no one would begin to find it strange... The pure mass of them ever present is insane. As I type this, Friday morning, there are two crews pulling up outside my window...

But my main issue, with many if you is the fact that this woman leaves HER WINDOWS AND HOUSE UNLOCKED.... not for a few hours... BUT FOR A WHOLE WEEKEND... and you choose to blane US, NOT HER...? huh? Get over yourselves people. It isn't my responsibility to watch the 30 other houses on this street especially if you're gonna leave valuable behind unlocked doors!

To the fake "The Eye", and to all concerning doppelgangers: I already registered the screen name "The Eye" a long time ago, but often simply logged in from time to time to make a quick comment or two on the fly. Now, the lesson is learned, and in all future posts, I'll be logging in, so you all can see that the numbskull NOT logged in at "The Eye" is up to their little cute tricks again, and is simply further embarassing themselves. Geez, grow up, kid. 'Nuff said.
