Original post made on Mar 25, 2011

After an illegal border crossing took a bad turn in Mountain View on Sunday — devolving into an extortion and kidnapping case — several Voice readers expressed confusion over how the ordeal was handled by local authorities.

I think it would be nice if mountain view became a sanctuary city.

It already is. The City Council and MVPD turn a blind eye to illegal aliens and The Voice curbs discussion on it as a relevant topic while it allows wild gossip mongering to go on and on regarding a coach and a player at the high school.

1. What if a couple of MV residents, say some teens and a mom with her baby, were taking a stroll on the sidewalk as the coyote/kidnapper came speeding by, "driving on the sidewalk to get around other vehicles," and they were killed?

2. MV a sanctuary city? Really?!? Do we really want more illegal aliens here? When they wanted to have a marijuana dispensary here, there was a lot of resistance. Why? Because it would increase the presence of a criminal element. An increase in illegal aliens equals an increase in illegal activity. If people are willing to break the law to come here, there are worse people who are willing to break the law to an ever greater extent, to victimize them. Where does that leave the rest of us. Do we really want to encourage people who bring a criminal element to our city? I don't. Again, going back to #1. Do we really want MV citizens hurt or killed as a result of increased criminal activity by illegal aliens?

3. The police want to encourage illegals to call 911. Great. Who's paying for the services when police are dispatched to help illegal aliens? Not them. You. Your tax dollars. Is it fair to increase police time and resources to fight coyotes or other illegal activity committed by illegals? Yes, I know - they report crimes. I don't know about you - but I don't see a lot of crimes. They see a lot because they're hanging out with the people who commit them, or are committing some themselves.

Undocumented immigrants tend to pay payroll taxes too.

And if the offender weren't kidnapping undocumented immigrants, he'd probably be committing crimes against legal residents (such as the possible pedestrian accident you outline). I'm glad my tax dollars help get him off the streets.

...with stolen ID's breaking even more laws.
