Skaters say skate park overhaul is long overdue

Original post made on Mar 11, 2011

As usual, the Rengstorff skate park was a busy place on Friday afternoon, with the sound of a dozen skateboards bouncing off the asphalt, ramps and rails. But underneath the surface is a common refrain. Politely put, the skate park could be better, much better.

Rengstorff's skate park reminds me of the ghetto.

Google "Orcas Island Skate Park" in Washington State and take a look and see what they can offer their residents. And that is just an island?

For the children of Mountain View, it is a pity Mountain View can't offer them a skate park that is equivalent or better than Orcas Island.

I don't understand.

Question:

How about the SLACKERS with the droopy pants get off their behinds and pitch in ( you know, WORK and CONTRIBUTE MONEY ) to create their " dream park "?

That 'tude is why I refer to this generation as the ENTITLEMENT GENERATION with the best example squatting in the White House ( I'm ENTITLED to be president! ).

Everybody is supposed to GIVE their time and money....

How about " The shredder community is working with Parks & Rec to build a place to showcase our talents...We have just DONATED $5000 toward that goal "....

but this comment will probably get as quickly censored as my last one....

@the_punnisher: I think you have a typo in your own name.

Most of those slackers are 16 years or younger. Not too many jobs out there for them unless they have a bachelors degree and 8-10 years of experience. Time to get off your high horse and find another hobby.

Gee whiz guys, won't you pony up $25,000.00 so us misunderstood youth can be given another perk? I mean, Mom and Dad feed and cloth us, the Residents give millions to educate us, the govt. gives some of us bkfst and lunch for free, but what have you given us lately ?

May I suggest that they either pay ($1.00 per skateboard time?) or do community service and earn credits they can use for their "fee".

What a shame that the entitlement generation doesn't get this pleasure for free. BooHoo..

On the name. When a person deals with Uptight M$M, he has to try to inject humor....

This nom de plum is all over the Internet. The " typo " represents what I do best. I've used this name for YEARS. I won't sue this time.

The Mtn. View Mouthpiece has some of the most uptight people I've run across...comments disappear, nasty rebuttals and SMUG that fit in with the SMUG ALERT! episode from our neck of the woods ( Yes, there really is a South Park, CO )

Back OT:

The 'tude is amazing. Private enterprise and the local shredders BUILD their idea of BOARD HEAVEN out here all the time. They just get approval from the local Parks & Rec people if they want to use public land.

Heaven forbid, the people actually VOLUNTEER THEIR TIME to do highway cleanup operations...

You know, the " Adopt a Highway " project..

I see few signs of this kind of cooperation when I've visited.

Most of your freeways look like a linear dumpsite.

So tit for tat. Help out government cleaning crews, police your selves and You MAY get permission to BUILD YOUR OWN PARK, not just get it handed to you...

Are you old timers shaking your fist at the sky while you bag on these young kids? They just want a real skate park and not that dinky excuse for one that they have now. I haven't skated in over 15 years and even I can understand that. Now, someone who has never skated and sees kids as punks who feel they're entitled to so much including free breakfast (huh?), well they've already made up their minds without before the debate.

If you hate skateboarding kids so much, why don't you lobby the city to tear the park out completely like they did to the BMX area off the Stevens Creek Trail. That will really show those punks eh? And Obama!
