I don't get this ... the Steven's Creek Trail already runs up the Sleeper Ave. in Mountain View where there is a metal bridge across the creek from the trail to Sleeper Ave.

Are you saying that the only new part of trail is a bridge, across Hwy 85, because that is not a very big extension ... it's just across the freeway.

Is there more to the extension and if so where does it go to on the other side of 85? If not, what is the real news?

@Anon -- It is correct that the next stage of the Stevens Creek Trail is "only" a bridge over Highway 85. But there are plans to extend the trail to near Mountain View High School and the city limits, although this stretch is not yet funded. A section of the trail has also recently been constructed in Cupertino.

Given how difficult it is to cross Highway 85 in this part of Mountain View now (the only other crossing nearby is on El Camino, which is a really unpleasant walk), a new pedestrian/bike bridge is big news in itself.

If you are one of the Mountain View families that lives on the eastern side of Hwy85, then this is REALLY BIG NEWS. But, then, you probably already know about it, too. There are over 100 grade school kids over there attend Huff Elementary on the western side about 7 blocks from the Sleeper trail access, so this is REALLY BIG NEWS for them, especially. And if you travel up or down Grant Road while those kids are being driven to school, then the possibility that some cars might not be helping clog up Grant Rd is REALLY BIG NEWS.

But you are right, another 0.25 miles on a 4.75 mile long trail is not a very big extension. It is just a very important one.
